Aki was born in Osaka, Japan to a Korean mother and a Japanese father.  Her mother was a professor at the time at Tokyo University, but by Aki's fourth birthday the family had relocated to Seoul, Korea, where Aki grew up.  She has two younger sisters, with all three of them exceptional students who graduated high school early and pursued scientific fields in higher education.

{{Section|Strenghts and Weaknesses|Blue}}

Strengths:
Eidetic Memory.  Aki has near total recall of almost anything she ever read or saw, so long as she was paying attention.

Mathematic Genius.  Aki is extremely gifted in both theoretical and applied mathematics and can usually solve even complex equations with perfect accuracy in her head faster than they can be input into a computer.

Hyper-Focus (ADD).  Aki suffers from Attention Deficit Disorder, and while it brings many problems for her (see weaknesses below), it does also bring a strength in the form of exceptional focus, at least when something is particularly interesting or challenging.  Aki is able to essentially tune out the universe and focus on a problem, and unknowingly push herself to the extreme edges of endurance until either the problem is solved or her body gives out.  An example was in the year 2379 while working on the initial equations that would allow a vessel to enter the Quantum Slipstream, she worked for 68 hours straight until developing what became the first viable QSS algorithm.

Weaknesses:
ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder).  Unless something is extremely interesting and/or challenging, Aki is easily distracted.  This often causes her to seem aloof, careless and sloppy.

Clumsiness (ADD).  Aki actually has rather excellent coordination when she is focused on something, but most of the time her mind is on a million other things besides her immediate environment, causing what appears to be an almost bungling nature.  She constantly bumps into, trips on, knocks over and collides with people or objects that could easily be avoided with a little attention.

Lack of Strength.  Aki is actually very strong for her size, but is so small that she is comparatively weak for a human female.  At barely over 40 kg there just isn't much muscle mass, and so while her endurance is above average and has the strength required for dance (a hobby), she cannot lift particularly heavy objects or apply anything resembling brute force.

{{Section|Personality|Blue}}

Aki is slightly introverted and a little shy when it comes to interpersonal interaction and recreation, in her element (physics and math) is extremely confident and personally comfortable.  She despises sloppiness as it relates to thought, but could care less when it comes to work or living space (her quarters and laboratory are always in a state of organized chaos).

She is slow to make friends, but generally trusting and kind, though a poor teacher as she lacks patience with slow learners.

{{Section|Hobbies and Activities|Blue}}

Aki is very interested in her Japanese and Korean dual heritage and spends much of her free time on cultural pursuits.  She plays the Gayageum (가야금), a Korean harp-like instrument with 12 strings and enjoys adapting it to the music of other cultures and even species.

She also is very experienced in the Japanese, Chinese and Korean versions of the Tea Ceremony, though the highly regimented Japanese Cha-no-yu (茶の湯) ceremony is where she has devoted most of her time and practice.  She has practiced tea ceremony since age 7 and is currently at the prestigious Ni-Dan, or second rank, which is rarely attained by anyone younger than 50-years-old and for most remains forever out of reach.  Her goal is to reach Ichi-Dan, or first rank before the age of 60.

Another traditional pursuit she enjoys is the Naginata (なぎなた), which is a long spear-like weapon with a long curved blade at the end.  Naginata is a traditional women's weapon in Japan and a foot-soldier's weapon in Korea.  Aki has studied and practiced the Japanese form of the art and prefers the Japanese version due to its lighter weight, slightly shorter and thinner pole and more graceful and dance-like moves.  She lacks the upper body strength required for the Korean version.

Finally Aki enjoys ballet dancing.  In her youth she belonged to numerous ballet companies while in high school and through most of her higher education.  The last time she danced professionally was at the age of 27, though she still practices daily as her form of physical fitness training and occasionally dances minor roles in amateur productions.  Aki especially enjoys ballet because of the total focus it requires on the music, the other dancers and of course her own movement.  She gave up dancing professionally as she has found that it is just not compatible with working on challenging projects as her mind tends to wander with often disastrous side-effects for herself and her fellow dancers.

{{Section|Medical/Psych File|Blue}}

Medical:
Aki is in excellent physical shape and has no significant health issues other than a low tolerance for alcohol, which she drinks in moderation.

Psych:
Like many people of exceptional intelligence, Aki is often aloof and just "not all there".  She has trouble concentrating on routine, non-challenging or mundane tasks.
