Background

Karl was born in The Hague, Netherlands. He grew up however in Dresden, Germany when his father was posted there on assignment with Star Fleet's logistics bureau. During his youth Karl enjoyed both rugby and ice hockey, both sports he attempted to try for an amature team but after the death of his older brother, Seigfried, he enlisted in the SFMC at the age of 19. He then finished and graduated to his first posting as a member of Port Security for Earth. He assisted customs officials and reacted to situations with smugglers and criminals. At the age of 24 he was promoted to Corporal, his first real chance at command, having the opportunity to lead a fireteam. After a disastrous reconaissance mission whilst hunting Romulan smugglers, Karl was severely wounded by a grenade and small arms fire. For his actions under fire he was promoted to Sergeant, and then upon further recommendation sent to Starfleet's Academy for officer training, becoming a cadet.
