Doctor Kael Hahn, born Kael Tam, used to serve as the ship's surgeon aboard the USS Triumphant, in an alternate universe where the Federation lost the Dominion War.

Background/Personality/Career History
Born in an alternate universe, Kael experienced the complete and devastating loss of the Federation at the hands of the Dominion, in an alternate reality where the Dominion won the war. Kael came aboard the Triumphant a few years prior to 2393, recruited after the loss of the ship's Starfleet doctor. He's not a Starfleet officer, as his tenure at the academy was cut short by the Dominion invasion of Earth. After what he witnessed, he chose to change career track from Starfleet nurse to civilian doctor. Over the years, he's worked his way further and further from the centre of what used to be the Federation, until he ended up on one of its former frontiers, the Menthar Corridor.
In the aftermath of the Federation's loss, he was joined with a symbiont against his consent after the death of its previous host -- who also happened to be his sister. The link between host and symbiont isn't the most stable, and Hahn has been known to try and dominate Kael in order to find itself a more "suitable" host. Since joining this universe, he's been offered support and counselling from the Symbiosis Commission, but it is a long process and he is prone to profound unhappiness at his situation.
As doctor, he's kind and genuinely cares for his patients, though he has been known to snap at those he thinks are wasting time and resources. He boxes, often with Karl Brunsig as a sparring partner, and can often be found socialising with other members of the crew when his services are not required.
