Judith was born and grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, North America, Terra. While a young girl, Judith was enthralled by the stories of an uncle, Thomas Hickson, who was a retired Starfleet Marine, and from them, she decided that she wanted a career in Starfleet. This did not sit well with her parents, who expected her to marry someone in the select group of families to which the Hicksons had belonged for centuries, then be a wife and mother at home. This was typical for Hickson women. But, Judith was a stubborn child and young girl, so at last her parents gave in, but forever afterwards, they didn’t like Uncle Tommy. So, Judith, from elementary school, did what she could to orient her life towards gaining admission to Starfleet Academy. Nevertheless, it took her two tries to get in, her parents all the while saying, after the first try, that perhaps Starfleet wasn’t for her. Judith made a deal with her parents: if they’d help her on a second try and she didn’t make it, she’d listen to them concerning what course her life would take. So, with both her parents and Uncle Tommy helping her, Judith made it in to the Academy the second time around, to the happiness of Uncle Tommy and the ruefulness of her parents, James and Alice Hickson.
