Backstory
Born on Andoria, Juanita Sanchez was on Deep Space 17 serving as a lieutenant JG in engineering when the Vaadwaur attacked and overran the station in 2387. She escaped with most of the crew fortunately and didn't live through the brutal three-month occupation that followed before Starfleet liberated the station through Operation Bright Star.
She returned to the station to help in its reconstruction in the following years and was promoted to full lieutenant in 2388. While serving aboard DS17, she was friends with the station's security chief Msafiri Bakari as well as operations officer Tristam Core, whom she initially butted heads with often before eventually sharing a brief relationship with the Rodulan in 2390.
Chief Engineer of the USS Mercury
Following the recovery of the presumed-lost USS Mercury in 2391, Juanita was assigned to oversee the ship's rehabilitation and refit as the ship's next chief engineer. While some of the drydock crew reported strange sights and rumors of oddities with the ship, Juanita found such talk annoying. This engineer had seen enough in her career to not get carried away by the overactive imagination of a few crewmen.
When the Mercury crew were forced to abandon their vessel in lifeboats after the ship suffered a total life support failure, it unexpectedly went rogue, with the computer having seemingly created a crew of holograms based on Sanchez and other Mercury crewmembers. After the Mercury was eventually recaptured by the USS Garuda on SD 239109, the ship was towed back to Deep Space 10. While some of the Mercury crew were reassigned to the Garuda, DSX, and elsewhere, Sanchez remained assigned to the Mercury to prepare the ship for its return to Federation space for more extensive repairs.

Juanita Sanchez was originally a general NPC created by Rich on DS17, played as an MSPNPC by Deliera on the USS Mercury, and later adopted as a PNPC by Amanda. Whew!
