James was born on Earth. The only child of Zachery and Stephanie Xander. Zachery was an enlisted member in Starfleet. He was a Chief Petty Officer at Utopia Planitia ship yards. Zachery was great with working with his hands. One day while working on a runabout he was shocked by a conduit thought to be deactivated. The shock caused Zachery to be knocked out and put in a coma. He eventually was able to come to but due to the nature of the shock his motor skills were limited. With the help of physical therapy he was able to regain 75% of his mobility back. Stephanie was a counselor that was helping Zachery through the mental aspect of the recovery. He fell in love with the 1/2 Human 1/2 Vulcan beauty.
Stephanie defiantly embraces her Human side more than her Vulcan side. In her words she a Human with pointed ears. She was a Starfleet counselor with the rank of Lt. jg. Her and Zachery decided to settle on earth and enjoy their lives together. She still counseled for Starfleet while Zachery retired for service and decided to just restore small craft and vehicles on Earth. Two and a half years in their relationship, Stephanie became pregnant with James. After they found out, Stephanie decided to retire from Starfleet and raise James as a stay at home mother. While she missed her career she felt it was important to be with her child. James continued doing odd repair jobs.
As James grew up he was always hearing stories about different ships his father worked on and different species his mother met. This was the main reason for joining the academy. While his parents stayed close to home James wanted to explore things never seen before. Another big reason for joining the Academy and trying to become an officer. His first year in the Academy James couldn't decide what he really want to do. He eventually fell in love with the science department. Also reading about some of the historical figures involved with the development and research of Science had to do with his chosen career path. James felt felt in order to honor his father he would take some Engineering courses as well. Engineering was more of a hobby James felt. Always hearing what his father fixed and how he did it. Still James was more interested in the Sciences.
