Class 1 Priority Alert

Starfleet Intelligence has designated this species a

Class 1 Priority

"We come, determined, glorious and unstoppable. Our presence is a given, inevitable and permanent. Glory in your fortune for we have come."
an ancient Iconian inscription discovered on a number of worlds.
The Iconians are an ancient species that once dominated a major portion of the Alpha and Beta quadrants. Historically considered to be conquerors they were wiped out by war and their homeworld destroyed by orbital bombardment more than 200,000 years ago.

Home System

  • Quadrant: Beta
  • Location: Edinhas Sector (coordinates B24-0001-1296)
  • Proper Name: Pai Ceti
  • Star: It orbits a class G (Yellow) star
  • Distance from Star: it's orbit is approximately 372 million km
  • Companions: There are 6 planets in this system. Theirs is the 3rd.
  • Moons: It has 2 medium and 3 small moons

Home World

  • Proper Name: Iconia
  • Diameter: 12,896 km (8,013 miles)
  • Gravity: 1.06 standard gravity with a density of 5.8
  • Axial Tilt: 17.1%, with normal terran seasonal changes
  • Orbital Period: 393 days
  • Rotational Period: 29 hours
  • Classification: M
    • Surface Water: 45%
    • Atmosphere: 1.4% is a standard pressure with 72% nitrogen, 23% oxygen, 4% trace chemicals, 1% trace radiation
    • Climate: Slowly recovering from the extreme amount of damage caused by the orbital bombardment
    • Terrain: Massive craters cover the planets surface although time and erosion has greatly reduced their appearance
    • Population: None known

History

An ancient and highly-advanced society, the Iconians reached their peak just before dying out about 200,000 years ago. Iconia, their homeworld, was destroyed by orbital bombardment 200,000 years ago and now the planet is located near the Romulan side of the Neutral Zone. Dubbed by history as conquerors, their use of a highly advanced galactic-wide transporter allowed their empire to flourish; at least one outpost was in the Gamma Quadrant.

Ancient texts called the Iconians "Demons of Air and Darkness", who were said to have the ability to appear at will on far-flung planets without the use of starships. Later this was found to be a reference to the Iconians' gateway technology, whose instant teleportation allowed them to establish outposts at least as far as Vandros IV in the Gamma Quadrant. Until the discovery of Iconia in 2365, the Iconians were still dismissed by many as nothing more than myth.

Historically the Iconians were generally described as a race of conquerors, though recently some scholars disputed this claim as a distortion perpetuated by species who feared and demonized their advanced technology, and eventually destroyed them. It was speculated that not all of the Iconians perished in the attacks, but rather used their gateways to escape to other worlds. Indeed, the similarity between the Iconian language and the later languages of Dewan, Dinasian, and Iccobar has been cited as evidence of this theory

In 2377, Tom Paris told Harry Kim he received a call from an "Iconian scientist" who said he had a trans-dimensional gateway that could take the USS Voyager anywhere in the galaxy. In reality, Paris was just saying this to prove to Torres how gullible Kim was.

Shortly after this some of the ancient gateways started to pop open seemingly on their own. Crew from DS9 were forced to investigate and a solution to the problem seemed to be found. One that they hoped would permanently seal the gateways.

While this was going on a species called the Petraw pretended to be descendants of the Iconians and attempted to broker a deal to sell the gateway technology to the Orion Syndicate.

Considering the very real possibility that somewhere in the galaxy the survivors were able to colonize a new world, Starfleet Intelligence has ordered this file kept open.

Federation Intelligence Files

All current data is based on historical files, recovered data and archeological discoveries. While it is believed the current residents of Dewan, Dinasian and Iccobar may possibly be survivors or at least the decendents of survivors that have interbred with the native population, no proof to this affect has yet been discovered.

Considering the very real possibility that somewhere in the galaxy the survivors were able to colonize a new world, Starfleet Intelligence has ordered this file kept open.

Both Memory Alpha and Memory Beta were used as sources as well as the TV episodes, TNG: Contagion, DS9: To the Death and VOY: Inside Man.
