Personality
Heath comes to grips more frequently and thoroughly with himself and his environment than do most people. His years spent in education have taught him patience and the ability to think through the storm of thoughts. He detests superficiality; he'd rather be alone than have to suffer through small talk. But his relationships with his friends are very strong, which gives him the inner tranquility and harmony that he requires to do his work successfully and function to his full potential. He doesn't mind being alone for extended periods of time and he rarely becomes bored. He does have a goofy personality, and enjoys a joke whether he is the butt of it or simply an observer. His accent is mildly Irish with slight hints of the Kerelian slipping in now and then.
Presently, he has become involved with the Challenger's own Lt.Cmdr Toni Turner. Their relationship is more than simply friendly but they are taking things slowly. Their feelings were strong for one another from the start and even with a few rocky patches to climb over, Heath has never been as happy. Their relationship is helping him to move on from his past instead of lurking in it.
Biography
Heath was born on Starbase 67 to civilian parents, Kerelian musicians and bar owners Kyle and Elle West. He was the second child to be born and developed a strong aptitude for music early on. Being a very creative child, his parents involved him in as much music as possible but his interest while on his music was diverted to engineering as well. He enjoyed watching the Engineers of the Starbase when they'd let him down to have a look and decided that it was Starfleet he wanted to get involved in.
When his parents moved him and his sister to the USS Gallipolis, he grew up reading and finding out about taking the course at Starfleet and joining the Federation. At the age of sixteen, he applied and with recommendation from the USS Gallipolis Captain, he gained entry into the Fleet to continue his studies in the field of Engineering. Heath is a loving soul who likes composing and playing music as much as possible. It is his favorite past time and reminds him a lot of home. While he still enjoys being surrounded by people, he likes spending time on his own to reflect on himself and practice his clarinet whenever possible. He grew up surrounded by different races and talking to different races, gaining friends around the quadrant, even those on passing ships. He likes to talk and make friends early on and has a fondness for Kriosian food.
He qualified an Engineer in the Marine Corps of Starfleet as enlisted upon the USS Thunder, under the command of Lt.Col Daniel Cardinal. Working his way up through the ranks, he gained and lost friends along the way. Gaining the rank of Marine Captain, and XO of the Thunder, West was given his own squadron of Fighters, 104th 'Black Ravens'.
During the massacre of the G'Stantek in Federation Space, many of his squadron were lost in the boarding party, including a very close friend. Major West opted for retirement from the Fleet upon their arrival back at Deep Space Nine. He opted for a Civilian life with Citizenship in the Federation.
However, he has since took up a Commission from Retirement and is serving on Starbase 118 as a General Envoy.
