Halloween Avatar Contest/Upload avatars to the wiki
This tutorial provides step-by-step instructions on how to upload avatars to the wiki for the annual Halloween Avatar Contest.
Step 1: Uploading the image and setting the category
- Click "Upload file" on the menu bar to the left.
- In the "Destination filename:" box, make sure to utilize this format only: Halloween_Avatars_Ship_Year_Character
- Example: Halloween_Avatars_Phoenix_2015_Wolf
- In the "Summary:" box, make sure to add a category using this format only: [[Category:Ship Halloween Contest YYYY]]
- Example: [[Category:Phoenix Halloween Contest 2015]]
Step 2: Creating the category
After you have uploaded all your images to your ship's category, you will notice that the category name is in red, because it has not been created yet.
- Click on that red category link.
- In the editing box, add the parent category for this year's contest utilizing this format only: [[Category:YYYY Halloween Avatar Contest]]
- Example: [[Category:2015 Halloween Avatar Contest]]
- Save the page to commit the change.
If the category you added is also a red link at the bottom of the page, it means you're the first person to upload to this category. Follow these instructions:
- Click on that red category link.
- In the editing box, add the parent category for the Halloween Avatar Contest: [[Category:Halloween Avatar Contest]]
- Save the page to commit the change.
Step 3: Check your work
- Click here: Category:Halloween Avatar Contest
- You should see the current year's category in the "subcategories" section. Click on it.
- You should see your ship's subcategory. Click on it.
- You should see all your ship's images for this year's contest.
Members of your crew can now use these images on the forum by linking to them directly when they set their avatar. Remember, once you're on the file page (example), you have to click on the image itself to view the image (example). That's the actual link your crewmates can use. Do NOT use the wiki file page.
