Gordon grew up on the Trill homeworld and attended primary school there. An extremely intelligent boy, he had been fascinated with starships and exploration from an early age. Also, like nearly all Trill, he dreamed of being chosen as a host for a simbiont, all the more because his mother was a Guardian at the Caves of Mak'ala. In addition to his studies on Trill with the Simbiosis Commission, Gordon spent a lot of time with his favorite grandfather, Telek, who was a scientist on Vulcan. He spent many summers exploring Vulcan and assisting with his grandfather’s research, and showed such scientific brilliance that he was accepted to the Vulcan Science Academy at age 14.
There he studied quantum physics and warp field theory, (his grandfather’s field,) graviton mechanics and, of couse, logic. After a year of study and research, Gordon met a colleague of his grandfather’s, Denari Mobius, who was a joined Trill conducting research on Vulcan. The two were friends and colleagues until the following year when Denari fell seriously ill.
In June <stardate> Gordon Lin’Erell received notification that he was accepted as a host candidate for a simbiont. It seemed that Denari Mobius was terminally ill and had petitioned the Simbiosis Commission save the Mobius simbiont, and had requested Gordon as the host. To much celebration from his friends and family, Gordon underwent the joining rituals and became joined with the Mobius simbiont. Though he had spent a good portion of his childhood off-world from Trill, this was the happiest moment of Gordon’s life, and he accepted every facet of the simbiont. That same year his brother Derrek joined Starfleet as a security crewman.
The following year Gordon graduated from the Vulcan science academy with degrees in applied Quantum and Gravitic mechanics. He also became interested in Starfleet from his brother and applied to Starfleet Academy. Cadet Gordon Mobius was accepted in the fall <stardate> academy class. There his highly focused mind and newfound experiences from the Mobius simbiont allowed him to surpass many of his classmates. In seeking a challenge, Gordon pursued an arduous course load and in his free time helped his fellow students wherever possible. Occasionally this generated resentment about his “Vulcan superiority complex”, but Gordon always strove to not appear haughty. His tutor role to his classmates made Gordon look to the prospects of command; after completing all of his required academy coursework to graduate as an Engineer, Gordon spent his final year taking Starfleet Command courses. In <stardate> Gordon graduated from Starfleet Academy as Valedictorian with highest honors and commissioned Ensign.
