  • Stardate 239703 - Present

With Captain Roshanara Rahman away on Krios Prime and Lt. Commander Sky Blake still recovering from her recent operation, Acting Captain Jansen Orrey leads the Veritas crew on a mission to investigate a rogue planet before it slips away into subspace.

Plot Summary

Teaser

Rear Admiral Joseph Washington contacts the Veritas with reports of a rogue planet, designated Hecate, currently on its way through Cardassian space toward Federation territory. Since it will pass through his area of control he decides to tap the USS Veritas to respond. They are to place probes in orbit and do what research they can as it passes through Federation territory.

Temporary Commanding Officer Log Entry Stardate 239703.21

Admiral Washington has asked the Veritas to investigate a surprising scientific find of a planet that is slipping in and out of subspace as it travels along. It is about to depart Cardassian space and enter Federation territory. Lieutenant Ukinix is going to be working from Engineering to make sure the ship can keep up with the planet. Lieutenant Commander Rouiancet has a team combining science, medical, and Sec-Tac officers to interpret as much data as possible once it begins to stream in. We are already in route to the position where the ship will intercept the planet. While intensely unusual of a find everything seems simple enough, however more dangerous words are rarely ever spoken on a starship.

The rogue planetoid has proven much more interesting than we could have originally hoped. Semi artificial structures that seem to recall old Earth circuitry, pools of liquid diamond, seemingly Menthar styled ruins. Not to mention a violently hostile atmosphere, possible silicon base predatory “animals”. The whole situation is fascinating from not only a macro, but a microscopic level as well. Therefore after a brief meeting to share what was found by the Science team, my original thought of an away team has proven to be to much of an opportunity to pass up.

With that in mind, Lieutenant Ukinix will be leading a team to the planets surface consisting of Lieutenant Commanders Moonsong, Alexander, Kelrod, Kinan as well as Lieutenants G'var and Dugoras. Lieutenant Vanlith will be staying in Engineering to work on the repairs to the damaged nacelle with Loupaz and Xio, two officers that come highly recommended by Lieuteant Ukinix.

That leaves the bridge crew to continue their work toward gathering as much information as we can. Lieutenants Smith, Ariadust will be working on keeping us in orbit over the planet and keeping an eye out for any surprises that may arise. The unenviable task of managing the demands of the ships power falls to Lieutenant Commander Jolara at the Operations desk. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Commander Alentonis and Ensign Zae'Li will be working on the job of recording as much information and other data as possible from the away team and the probes we have in orbit around the planetoid. The path ahead of us is a unique one, and one that is paved in sparkling diamonds...diamonds that can sparkle, and can cut just as easy.

First Officer's Log, Stardate 239704.05 - Acting First Officer Lieutenant Wil Ukinix reporting.

Having established that there are artificial structures and artificially generated areas of low pressure on the rogue planet, Acting Captain Commander Orrey has assigned me lead the away team to the planet. I've asked the away team to kit themselves in EVA suits and meet me in the transporter room for a quick briefing before we beam down. Lieutenant Vanlith will be in Engineering, ensuring we can get Nacelle 3 back up and running.

We've established that there are artificial structures and low-pressure areas on the rogue planet. Commander Orrey, acting Captain, has assigned me to lead the away team down to the planet. I've asked the team to be in their EVA suits, ready for a briefing before we transport to the surface. Lieutenant Vanlith will be working on getting Nacelle 3 back up and running.

Starfleet Continuous Improvement Programme Submission - Lieutenant Wil Ukinix, USS Veritas, submitting. Stardate 239704.05.

A bit of feedback regarding protocol. In the case where an officer is assigned to two roles at once, in my case Acting Chief Engineer and Acting First Officer, it might be worth considering changing procedure to only require one log entry? Otherwise, we just end up doubling up on the same stuff in log entries. It might lead to greater efficiency. Anyway, just a thought for consideration. Hope you're all enjoying the lovely whether in San Francisco at the moment. Regards, Lieutenant Wil Ukinix.

Science Officer’s Log, Stardate: 239704.05

There is so little information on the Menthar or the Promellians. What is known is that their war resulted in their mutual destruction. That is the general consensus of the scientific community. The truth is, we do not know for certain. They vanished over a thousand years ago. The ancient Allianance of the area also disappeared. Perhaps this planetoid will have some of the answers. But it is more than likely to raise more questions.

Chief of Security log, Stardate 239704.05 – Commander Kelrod Dickens.

After having managed to catch up with the rogue planet we were looking for, we're about to get start an away mission on a kind of dome that protects the area from the rest of the planet environment and it seems that there are some sort of indigenous life, somehow mutated of modified artificially so I'm getting ready to protect the rest of the team as best as I could. This would have been a good time to have my upgrades done, but it hasn't been possible yet, however I'm confident in my experience and continuous training to be up to the challenge that this planetoid is about to throw at us, or so I hope. Note to self,... maybe I'll have to find the time to make a last will in case someday my luck just runs out.

Chief Medical Officer's Log, Stardate 239704.05

We’ve managed to obtain more data on the rogue planetoid which indicates it is inhabited by artificial lifeforms made up of a rather unique combination of artificial components and a crystallized carbon-diamond substance. In all my years studying alien lifeforms, I haven’t seen anything like it. It’s an opportunity of a lifetime, a dream for any doctor or scientist. However, I must admit that I’m apprehensive about first contact with these lifeforms. There’s every indication that their residence on this planet is far from accidental, which makes me question who created them and why.
