Summary

Exploration-class skiff Corelli staryards principal design draft

Class description: the exploration-class science expedition skiff was requested for use on various missions in the gamma quadrant. A transparent spherical viewing dome dominates the forward section of the craft. This dome allows a very wide field of view with excellent optical properties, and includes both electronic optical filters, and a holographic heads up tactical display. The dome is large enough to support a mission specialist, helm pilot, and navigation station. Direct aft of the pilot controls, central in the dome is the mission commanders station. Aft of the main control area is an extended habitat area containing the main system control hardware, as well as two additional science stations, one each in the port and starboard walls, operations, and engineering controls. Auxiliary seating is available in this area.

The master control area is generally layed out in the standard helm/nav configuration, with the pilot station on port, navigation starboard. The mission commander station is situated centrally in the dome, with auxiliary information displays on each side of the station chair. The designer has outfit the stations with a number of physical controls, but has included a configurable touch display option for general functions.

Continuing aft are four bunks, the replicator and tolit facilities. Maximum endurance of this craft is two months during emergency conditions.

Along the dorsal hull is situated an 800 Cochran matter/antimatter assembly based on that of the delta flyer class shuttle. A high capacity shield grid draws direct energy from the warp core, with defenses better than a standard runabout. Maximum warp speed is limited to warp 6. Speeds beyond this will cause catastrophic stress tot eh viewing dome.

There are no weapons systems on this class craft. Enhanced tractor beam, with emitters situated on the ventral hull, enhanced sensors, and advanced main deflector abilities have been installed utilizing the computer and power resources usually takenby weapon systems. Standard shuttle transporter systems are available, but no provision for physical docking.

Planetary landing is advisable only in areas large enough to support the craft, no smaller than 20m^2. Atmospheric flight is possible with limited maneuvers. Extended atmosphere flight is not recommended.
