The combination of Caitian and Antican DNA -- in this instance -- produced a unique individual. What you are looking at is a being with most of the outward appearance of a Caitian in body, and covered in head to paw in fur. The head however, being a more canine-like, but with a fine fur that Caitians have around their face. The ears are tall and pointy, placed on top of the head. When covered, very little outward appearance of gender is noticeable. One might tend to think Vanth is that gender which one might prefer in a partner -- presumably if Vanth were to start lactating this might partly change -- but through a genetic abnormality, presumably due to the unique combination of parentage, Vanth has a fully working set of both sets of genitalia. Due to Vanth's unique body coverings and foot structure, Starfleet has issued hir a special disposition regarding hir uniform. It is slightly modified to allow for a shirt tail sleeve, and to allow better air-flow over hir body, due to hir tendency to overheat if covered completely. S/he also has standing permission not to wear foot coverings.

"S/he" instead of "she" or "he"
"Hir" in place of "her", "him", and the possessives, "hers", and "his"
"Hirself" where appropriate, and finally,
"Shir", though s/he admits hirself, s/he is lax on this, and "sir" will work in a pinch.
