Etan Venroe, previously Etan Ocal, was a Trill, and was previously a Security officer posted aboard the USS Venus.

Etan was the first host to the Venroe symbiont in 2368. However, against the directives of the Symbiosis Commission, Etan hand-picked the symbiont's next host, Akyra Sentoss. He hoped for this decision to become a "tradition" within those hosting the Venroe symbiont. However, members of the Commission (and often anyone familiar with the Venroe symbiont) often refer to the decision as the beginnings of a curse. Etan was killed in action in 2383, just 43 years old, and Akyra was joined with Venroe.
