Background

Eston and his best friend Isaiah Asher bonded over Alpha Quad Guardians (a.k.a. AQ Guardians), a very popular kids TV show during their youth. They made a pact to join Starfleet and to journey the stars together. They didn’t want to just watch the Guardians or idolize the Guardians. They wanted to be the Guardians. Starfleet was their way of doing so.

During High School, however, Eston began to date Alyssa Fitzgerald and that dream Guardianship faded. Isaiah joined Starfleet after High School, just as he said he would, while Eston stayed in Camden, Maine to continue his relationship with Alyssa, shortly after which they became engaged. But then… tragedy hit.

Isaiah, set to graduate from Starfleet Academy, suffered an accident that left him critical and on life support. It took some time, but Isaiah pulled through; however, he, unfortunately, would never walk again. The accident paralyzed him from the waist down. Isaiah would be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

In that moment, Eston knew what he had to do. Eston joined Starfleet. His decision was not like by some and his relationship with Alyssa broke. She couldn’t be here, alone, worrying every day, wondering if Eston will come home like Isaiah or even worst. She refused to put herself through that. It was either Starfleet or her. Eston’s answer held no hesitation. He was Isaiah’s last chance to see the stars, to be a Guardian. He couldn’t walk away from that; he couldn’t abandon his friend when he was needed the most.

Alyssa, clear–minded and unselfishly returned to support Eston’s decision. She thought about it, they’re getting married, what kind of wife would she be if she didn’t have his back. Eston felt the warmth and joy from her words. He could now join the ranks of Starfleet well supported.

Eston excelled at the Academy, earning a major in Engineering and a minor in Operations.
