The Laudeans achieve warp flight uneventfully, without immediate intervention from higher powers or alien beings. Instead, they are afforded a fair bit of solitude for a few months, until around the time the warp phenomenon gains newsworthy level on Tilhon.

warp flight. As StarFleet makes contact, things are rapidly changing on Tilhon. The Laudeans are opening thir eyes to a new era for their people: one of limitless boundaries.  
The Laudean species became warp capable in 2379. Upon discovery of their newfound abilities, StarFleet made First Contact, followed by the Romulans and Zalkonians soon after. What ensued was a dramatic social upheaval of the Laudeans, resulting in a revolution that destroyed their modern monarchy and world government, and replaced it with a socialist republic.  


StarFleet authorizes First Contact with the Laudeans, which seems to go over in a rather lukewarm manner. It quickly becomes evident that, while warp flight is amazing, the news of a alien civilizations is society-shattering.  
The three major powers vied for the opportunity to bring the Laudeans under their protection; the Federation to ensure that the others couldn't destroy the culture, the Romulans to gain access to the Laudeans' ability to [[Laudean Fielding|sense energy fields]], and the Zalkonians for the resources and strategic value of the Luxis system. All three occupied embassies on Duronis II, and worked to woo them into an alliance, but in the end, the new Laudean government was coerced into choosing the Romulans to ally with. In 2383, the Zalkonians and Federation vacated Duronis II. Subsequent reviews of Duronis II by Starfleet forces have found the Laudean standard of living deteriorate substantially as Romulan operatives took greater control over the government and began exploiting the people, and their Fielding ability, for their own gain.  


The government of Tilhon (or, Duronis II, as it is called by StarFleet personnel) makes small efforts to receive their new ambassadors in as orderly a way as possible, while civil unrest begins to grow. The people believe the monarchy should do more to welcome the new guests, while the monarchy clearly feels threatened by Federation eminence.
In 2388, immediately after the Destruction of Romulus and Remus, rioting broke out as anti-Romulan protesters took to the streets in an attempt to drive Romulan forces from the planet. The Romulan Ambassador was recalled to help with more pressing diplomatic issues elsewhere, but a number of Romulan operatives remained in control of government ministries. The Laudeans, having watched their culture deteriorate during their alliance with the Romulans, took the opportunity to contact the Federation, inviting them back to Duronis II for protection from renegade Romulans, the fragmented Tal Shiar, or any other opportunistic species that could endanger their culture. The Federation agreed, and sent the crew of [[USS Thunder]], captained by [[Turner, Toni|Toni Turner]], to reopen the Embassy, and serve as its staff.  


Not long after Federation first contact, the Zalkonians also make contact. A people of mysterious background, the Zalkonians are beginning to feel cramped on their homeworld, and see worlds to expand to. They are the first to discover that the Laudeans the ability to sense fields of energy, from the distant stars to the tiniest vibrating atoms. Using their considerable charm, the Zalkonians offer the Laudeans protection from the watering-down of their society from members of the Federation.  
By the time the USS Thunder arrived, the Laudeans had ousted the remaining Romulans, and had taken over the Federation Embassy for their own office use. Prime Minister Ahishma Chandra, now back in office, gave the Federation representatives, the newly renovated Romulan Embassy instead as insurance that the Romulans would not try to reoccupy it.  


Within just another week, the Romulans also make contact, notifying both the Zalkonian and Federation personnel that Duronis II actually falls within Romulan boundaries â??? a dubious claim. Undoubtedly interested in the Laudean energy-sensing ability called â??Fielding,â?? they are most concerned with the â??cultural and historical importanceâ?? of Duronis II to the Romulan people. Making a surprise revelantion, they point the Laudeans, Zalkonians, and Federation personnel to a long-covered marble monolith in a remote dessert, covered in archaic pseudo-Romulan markings.
Despite these incursions, the Federation does its best to warmly bring the Laudeans into the galactic fellowship. Presenting small milestones in technology and new commercial venues to trade wares, the Federation argues that the Federation has the most to offer the Laudeans. As all three non-Laudean empires put in effort to garner favor with the people of Tilhon, the son of the emperor is sent on a tour of Earth and Vulcan; an (unsuccesful) attempt to convince the population that the monarchy is accepting of the new aliens.
As the Prince redies to return home, after having visited Federation worlds, Tilhon erupts into a chaotic cauldron of social upheaval. A massive coup is staged by thousands of non-aristocratic individuals, operating in a world-wide network to bring a new, socialist government into power. Many members of the Emperorâ??s royal family are murdered in their home, while five of the other six Kingdoms are thrown into anarchy. In just two weeks, the entire hierarchical aristocratic system is overturned, leaving just one Kingdom standing while the others are quickly headed towards uniting as socialist republics.
The Federation swiftly retreats off-world, urging both the Zalkonians and Romulans to pull out until the violence of the civil war is over. Both comply.
Many factions are beginning to grow power within the new government: Fielding leaders, Royalists, Scientists, Proletariat. While the population is uneasy with the upheaval, a new day in Laudean society seems to be dawning. The old guard is felled in one quick slash, while one government â??for the peopleâ?? grows power daily. The Fielding leaders are cautious about the new aliens, while the Royalists reject them outright. The Scientist and Proletariat groups desire more contact with the Federation, Romulans, and Zalkonians to gain a better perspective and assess the benefits.
Giving the Laudeans a little more than two months to settle the chaos, the Federation, Zalkonians, and Romulans return to Duronis II. The new government, (among in-fighting and disagreement), offers the three empires embassies on their world in the hopes of fostering trade and aiding in making a better decision on who to trust. The Federation is the first to accept, and have a crew on-site within a few days.
Exuberance is quick to die, though. Less than 24 hours after the offical welcome ceremony, a bomb explodes inside the Federation embassy, killing most of the team and destroying the entire building.
Federation members are outraged, demanding immediate restitution and withdrawal from the volatile situation. The Laudeans are humiliated and infinitely apologetic, their new world leaders begging the Federation to return and offering a new, lavish embassy for the Federation, complete with a host of security measures. Amidst rampant controversy, the Federation advisors accept, but stipulate that StarFleet construction engineers must be involved during the entire process. To protect their own interest, both the Romulan and Zalkonians decide to build their own embassies as well.
Back in the UFOP, a new team of officers is being collected to head back into the Lion's Den. The Laudeans possess an ability that could be a critical element of future defense for the Federation â??? allowing the Zalkonians to squander the opportunity, or the Romulans to take advantage of it could mean massive future losses. The Federation leaders are determined to â??winâ?? the Laudeans to their side. But what will the ultimate price be?
