| She was born to Iris and Freddie Finch in Uruguary, on Earth, the youngest of five and the only girl. Her father, an englishman from Birmingham, was an enlisted crewman and worked away a lot, while her mother Iris, an englishwoman from Coventry, was an outsourced wildlife scientist. Finch spent many years of her life in Uruguay, and therefore is able to speak Spanish despite its rare usage in present-day Federation.

| When she reached a certain age, she and her brothers moved back to England for a couple of years before joining the Starfleet Technical Services Academy on Mars. While there, Finch met Bob Murphy and several other men who became her life-long friends and confidants. Many of their postings crossed over during their tenures, including Finch and Murphy's aboard the USS Marigold, until his untimely demise.
