Dexter Wilding is currently serving as a science officer aboard the USS Gorkon.

Background
Dexter was born on Earth, and lived a fairly normal childhood for the first few years of his life. At age 6, his mother took him on his first trip to space. Even at that young age, Dexter knew space was where he was meant to be. He lived on Vulcan with his mother for a year while she assisted with setting up new medical centers in the surrounding systems.
At age 9, he asked his mother about the father he’d never known. Candace Wilding had pulled up a picture of herself and a rather handsome Andorian male on her PADD, showed it to her son, and said, “There. So you know what the bastard looks like.” And that was that. Whatever had happened between Candace and Kol Ch’itikrek was a mystery, and Dexter’s mom was not going to go into detail.
Dexter showed a strong predilection towards science as a child, and read technical manuals voraciously.
At age 15, Dexter again traveled to Vulcan, this time to take part in a Federation archeological dig of a newly discovered ancient city. The Vulcans, although they hid it well, were quite impressed with how this hybrid teenager handled himself.
At age 17, with the signatures of several Vulcan scientists on his application, Dexter joined Starfleet Academy. Naturally, he chose to focus on scientific pursuits, most notably xenoarcheology. He had very few friends while in school, but he was fiercely protective of those he did have.
At age 19, with the help of an associate he still knew on Vulcan, he managed to hack into an Andorian database to look up information on his father. All he could find was that Kol Ch’itikrek was a disgraced scientist, but all information related to why he was disgraced had either been purged or redacted. There was no information to be found there or in the more easily accessed Starfleet records that could even tell him if his father was alive or dead.
Dexter excelled while at the academy, although many instructors noticed he had a tendency to focus on things unrelated to the topic at hand.
