Family
Edgar's family are for the most part colonists in the Corwin system of the Almatha sector of the Alpha Trianguli sector block. His father, James Deacon (J.D.), works as a systems engineer, and his mother Allaine is a teacher of literature, ethics and arts. His brother Owen serves in a constabulary position in the same colony. Edgar's sister Everleigh (Eve) was a starfleet ensign, but went missing in action over a year ago.

History
Though Edgar is a Terran, he hadn't set foot on his species' homeworld until his 26th year, the year he joined Starfleet. Before then, he and his family were members of one of the Federation's countless off-world colonies. Exploring new worlds was step one, populating them being step two. Edgar took up the profession that his uncle Victor once worked, until he took ill - running an inter-colony courier service. Edgar commonly flew a Peregrine-class shuttle between his colony and four others on their planet, delivering medical supplies, mechanical goods, and sometimes even personnel. He was 14 at the time that his uncle began training him to fly the shuttle, and 16 when he did it full-time on his own. This routine continued until the Dominion War engulfed their system in 2374.
At first, the colony itself wasn't involved in the conflict, but a great battle took place in orbit of the planet - one which the Federation lost. When the Federation was defeated at Corwin Prime, the Dominion formed a Blockade of the system and began to invade the colonies. The colonial engineers managed to salvage some parts from Federation and Dominion vessels that had crashed to the surface in order to erect point-defense turrets and retrofit three of their Peregrines to perform as attack interceptors. For three months Edgar, his co-pilot Felix, the crewmen of two other Peregrines, and countless colonists supporting from the ground fought off the Dominion siege. Two of the five colonies were immediately destroyed by orbital bombardment, but there were resources in the other three that the Dominion wanted, so they could not be so reckless.
The colonists fought a hard battle, and ceded only one of the three colonies to the Dominion before the Federation was able to break the blockade and end the war on ground and air. It was at that time that Starfleet offered Edgar the chance to enroll in their academy. Edgar declined, but his sister Eve joined them, wishing to utilize her technical knowhow to help combat the type of warlike people that brought death to her door. Their parents tried to dissuade her, but she, like her father, was stubborn as a mule and would not be deterred from her course. Edgar kept in touch with her, sending video letters over long-range communications whenever he got the chance.
One day, in 2373, Eve stopped responding. James Deacon, their father, received a message from Starfleet that her ship had gone missing in action - but nothing more could be said about the incident. The mystery of her disappearance weighed heavily upon James and Allaine especially. Edgar could not bear to see them in such a state for long before he vowed to join Starfleet and find out just what exactly had happened to his sister. Starfleet's offer to train as a full-time officer had not come off the table, so the next transport traveling to Sol had Edgar in tow.
