(Background)

D'yer Rix was born to parents Ellen, a doctor and Joran a musician in the northern part of Mak'ala, the Trill capitol in 2367. His mother Ellen works as a doctor at one of the city's hospital while his father was a composer and musician and part of an orchestral troupe.

D'yer had a conventional upbringing and as an only child, was and still is very close to his parents. At 14 he became interested in applying to be a joined Trill and at 16 his parents allowed him to apply. However, his application was unsuccessful. He finished his studies and decided to apply to Starfleet Academy at 18 however his mother encouraged him to apply to be a joined Trill one more time. On his second attempt he was accepted to the program and spent a year at the symbiosis commission being prepared for joining. At 19, he went to Starfleet Academy and chose to Major in Engineering, with a specialisation in propulsion systems. He also minored in Operations.

After 3 years at the Academy, D'yer was recalled to Trill for the joining and spent two months acclimatising to his new life as a joined Trill. He returned to the Academy and finished his last year before spending a year on his cadet Cruise. D'yer graduated in 2391 from Starfleet Academy and has been assigned to the USS Apollo - A as an engineering officer.

After only a few days serving on board the Apollo, Rix was requested to transfer to Starbase 118.
