Backstory

Denari was born in the Rakantha province on Bajor during the Cardassian Occupation. In 2356, at the age of ten, being forced to watch the rape and murder of her mother at the hands of the Cardassians shattered her childhood. Her father, Jardin, and she were taken to a labor camp, but were shortly liberated by the Kohn-ma resistance cell. Her father joined the fight against the Cardassians and in 2360, he was badly wounded during an attack on a Cardassian administrative building. A few days later, Jardin died, or so she was told. Denari was greatly affected by her father's death, she felt guilty for blaming him for not saving her mother.

She picked up the fight where her father left off; making a vow to him that she wouldn't give up until Bajor was free. She became very proficient in the use of a various assortment of weapons ranging from a simple piece of wire to high explosives. However, she felt no satisfaction out of killing the Cardassians, in fact, she hated killing. But each time she saw an innocent life taken, a part of her died as well. She felt she had no other choice but to fight for Bajor's freedom.

In 2363, Denari and four other resistance fighters were captured. All were tortured during their interrogations; Denari was the only one to survive. For unknown reasons, the Cardassians decided to transport Denari and other prisoners to Cardassia. The Cardassian ship transporting the prisoners experiences severe navigational problems and drifted too far into Federation space. A Starfleet ship, the USS Brattain, promptly captured it.

Denari spent the next 2 months recovering from her physical trauma on Starbase 351. A young human, Jeremy Farrell, befriended her. Through her friendship with him, she developed an interest in space exploration. She was intrigued by the fact that relations between two totally different cultures could be amicable.

She felt drawn to Starfleet. She was captivated by what it represented, hundreds of different cultures striving for peace and knowledge. She expressed a desire to join Starfleet, but she was guilt stricken by not returning to Bajor. She felt she was betraying her people. After agonizing over it for sometime, Denari joined SFA a year after her rescue. With her extensive knowledge and skill in weaponry and combat, Denari concentrated on Tactical Command while still learning various cultural and planetary histories. Through hard work and placing her full attention on her studies, Denari graduated within the top five of her class in 2368.

After Bajor was freed in 2369, Denari was offered the opportunity to join the Maquis in their fight against the Cardassians. Though she still hated the Cardassians and understood the Maquis' reasoning, she felt it wasn't right for her. She had long lost her thirst for blood. She was also appalled to find out that the Kohn-ma had become a militant terrorist organization and were involved in a plot to destroy the Bajoran wormhole in hopes of decreasing Bajoran importance to the Federation and other factions.

(Parts of Denari's Starfleet record has been classified)

In 2387, Denari resigned from Starfleet and returned to Bajor where she now works for Bajoran Intelligence.
