Charta-Von is a late middle-aged Grazerite currently serving as Grazer III's Ambassador to the Federation, a position she has held since retiring from a distinguished career in Starfleet in 2383. Before her retirement at the rank of Commodore, Charta-Von served as a senior officer and then Executive Officer of the USS Astraeus during the Dominion War. In 2375, the Astraeus was crippled by a Dominion attack, and her Captain killed. Charta-Von took command and saved the ship. With the Astraeus in drydock for the remainder of the war, Charta-Von was granted permanent command after the war's end. She served as Captain for eight years, and presided over sixteen first contact missions and countless scientific discoveries.

A strict traditionalist when it comes to Starfleet regulations, Charta-Von has little tolerance for bending rules, especially the Prime Directive. Her powerful personality combined with a Grazerite's naturally contemplative and cautious personality has made her an effective and well-known representative of her people.

Charta-Von has a passion for science, especially medicine. Though she's never attended medical school herself, she uses her influence to push for medical advancements whenever possible. She is married to a botanist, a male Grazerite named Pinfa-Char, and they have six children together, some of whom are officers in Starfleet.
