Ensign Caitríona "Cait" Cayne is a Human doctor. After many years as a Civilian Nurse on Earth, Caitríona decided she wanted to pursue something greater in life, push herself further than she did before and reach for the stars - so she joined Starfleet. She currently serves as a Medical Officer aboard the USS Gorkon under the command of Rear Admiral Quinn Reynolds.

	Personal History

Early Life (2362 - 2380)

Caitríona was born on Earth. Her parents (Kathleen and Patrick) were Irish and raised her along with her brother (Anthony) on a small farm in the south of Ireland. She had a good upbringing, she was thought of manners and right from wrong. Her parents would have done anything for their kids. Caitríona would have been described as a shy child, usually listening rather than speaking. She would enjoy going to the seaside, the fresh air and the smell of the sea always brought her great comfort.

In her school work, she wasn't anything special. Even though she was a shy child, she loved to take part in plays and productions that were put on. Seeing the smile on her parents face, it made her feel proud, and that was something she always wanted to make them feel.

Her brother who was an older finished school before since they would help out on the farm from time to time this became more of a full-time job for him. Caitríona wanted to do more though. Her grades were fine, not exemplary, she didn't feel Starfleet would be for her. Well, she didn't believe she was for Starfleet. So she went to the local Starfleet Medical Facility so she could apply to train as a civilian nurse.

Nursing (2380 - 2388)

Now that Caitríona was 18, she had to do something with her life. It was time for her to grow. Even though she was unsure what she wanted to do in the future she started training to be a nurse. Her dreams were to be a Medical Officer on a Starship, to discover the universe. Her own self-doubt and insecurities caused her to not even try.

She spent 4 years studying with a few other people her age, some were passionate about Nursing. Caitríona is a very meticulous and precise person, she really started to enjoy what she was doing. She had a friendly nature and couldn't bear seeing others in pain. She was told she had great qualities in becoming a great nurse.

Once she graduated from her training, she was immediately put to work. She would spend hours and hours in the medical facility, getting experience in all types of situations. It really helped her grow as a person. She wasn't as shy as her childhood self after being forced from her shell in the medical environment. Communication was key and she was thankful, quick to adapt. However, she still felt like she wasn't doing what she wanted to do, what she needed to do. She saw many people go to Starfleet Academy and become officers and she was always envious of the Doctors.

It was her brother who convinced her to eventually apply to Starfleet Academy. She was still so doubtful - why would they want me? - she would think. But they did, and she couldn't have dropped her nursing post quick enough.

Starfleet (2388 - 2396)

Caitríona didn't mind being a mature student. In fact, some people were older than her!

She had never taken anything more seriously in her life. She needed to do this, her dreams were becoming a reality and there was no one going to get in her way. Yes - she was very competitive in class. Once a shy little girl with mediocre grades, now she was one of the top students in the class. All that self-doubt she felt was all before couldn't have been anymore untrue, her experience as a nurse and the dedication she put into her work made her excel, there was no doubt in her mind anymore. She was meant to be a Starfleet Officer.

The academy was long, she knew it would be. 4 years studying Medicine and another 4 years to become an Officer. She had met a lot of people along the way, she made great friends - even a few flings, but she was only there for one reason, she would someday be on a ship and exploring beyond her horizon.

Starfleet Medical When Caitríona turned 18 a lot of people her age seemed sure they knew what they wanted to do, at this age though she wasn't. Lot's of people found careers in business, Starfleet and even entertainment. She always liked the idea of helping people, so she decided to become a nurse (she didn't think she could be a doctor). So she trained in a local Starfleet Medical Facility for 4 years before she began her work. Later realising she wanted to do more.

Starfleet Academy Caitríona was a mature student at the Academy, she had no problem fitting in, however. She was grateful to the opportunity and it felt like something she had missed out on in her younger years - luckily she didn't feel that anymore. To come in with experience already in the medical field as a nurse was a big advantage, she understood a lot of concepts quickly before others. Although as the years went by that changed, becoming a doctor was a lot more advanced and she excelled just as much as any other in her class. She spent 4 years studying Medicine and another 4 years training to be an officer.
