Capt. Brell & Lt Cattan - The Captain’s Physical
((Sickbay, Deck 5, USS Atlantis))
::Brell stood in sickbay waiting. He did not really want to be here but as the commanding officer of Atlantis, he could not escape the physical exam he had ordered everyone to take. Still he wished he could simply take Captains proagtive and excuse himself from participation.::
oO Perhaps next round I could get away with but not this first time. Oo
::He had been keeping up a fitness routine since taking command of Atlantis; sparring the holographic, and fellow crew in the boxing ring, swimming laps on the holodeck, as well as free weight training. However he had not been sticking to his diet well, often allowing himself large portions, or snacks after having a sensible mid day meal that should have been enough. It was often during the times he was in his ready room buried in reports to read and file, that he indulged in snacks. The doors to sick bay slid open and in walked the current occupant of the CMO office, Dr Cattan.::
oO She could get Williams in the nagging, great! Oo
Cattan: Well hello Captain Brell, that's a surprise ::she smiles kindly:: what can I do for you?
Brell: Well, I am here for my physical. ::Seeing the bag over her shoulder.:: Were you just coming in?
Cattan: I'm about to start ::she smiles while they walk together to her office:: I had a free evening yesterday
Brell: Ah I hope it was nice, this planet has quite a few spots to offer.
Cattan: are you enjoying your shore leave?
Brell: So far yes, We took the twins down to the islands we access too for those few days. Hars accused me of beaming down half the ship worth of stuff to enhance the experience. And we ended up playing in the sand with kids for most of the time. oO No need to mention the four sandwiches I ate or how much meat I put on them. Oo
Cattan: that sounds so lovely. I bet they must be glad that it's shore leave. ::she smiles:: now you have time to play with them
Brell: Indeed they, Linalu even seems to be less shy when I’m around for more than a few hours like on normal days.
Cattan: oh Linalu, did she grow much? and Renu how's he doing?
Brell: Growing quickly they are turning three soon. You and Alex should stop by and visit while we all have a bit of extra free time.
Cattan: We should. I did promise Hars to cook some Egyptian food for him ::she laughs:: perhaps I can make some seafood too
Brell: Both sound good to me, I did not visit all of Earth’s continents when I was at the Academy there. So there's a lot of culture and food yet to be discovered.
Cattan: ::she laughs:: oooh yes, Sir. Believe me, there is. You've never tasted my samosa's. ::she thinks for a moment:: I've never made a filling with fish before, but I'll give it a try.
Brell: The kitchen in my quarters is yours then, as long as Hars does not have anything going on that night.
Cattan: that would be great! Sir, ::she blushes:: I like talking about food but we'd better start this physical of yours
Brell: oO Drat, if only Dinner plans were enough to get out of the reason I came in for. Oo Yes let’s get to it.
::They left the CMO's office and went over to a bio-bed. He hated these things as laying on them reminded him of his capture and torture at the hands of the consortium. At least these didn’t have restraints of any kind, if they did he did not know how he would react really. Just thinking of that horrible event made the task before him feel not so bad. Fear over a physical exam was rather trivial. Telling himself that might just help, as he got up on the biobed and readied himself to endure this exam.::
Cattan: Sir, you did get physicals before right? When was the last one?
Brell: Yes on the Blackwell about three months before I took command of Atlantis. .. So a year ago. oO Was it really that long. Oo
::He knew the one who left the most notes on his medical file had been Dr. Cook on the USS Darwin. There he had been given multiple lectures about his eating habits, some of which he followed. He tried not to look nervous as Cattan went over him with her tricorder. She paused at his left arm were the scar was from a fight he had gotten into in his teen years then it could not be corrected by dermal regeneration, and now he would want to have it corrected as it served as a powerful reminder to do the right thing to him. He laid down on back when directed too and felt the bio-bed rise to the Doctors level.::
::She nods and looks up the data from the most recent physical. It was written by Dr. Cook on the USS Darwin. There were multiple notes about his eating habits in it. Brell's height was measuring in at 1.79m and the bed brought up his weight straight to the PADD, Brell was weighing in at 122kg combining those on the BMI chart he had a score of 37/36 which meant he was obese. His weight went up with 5 kg in one year. She frowned and saw there was a note about the Bolian race. It had said that Brell was in his late-thirties and it was normal that his appetite would increase and his metabolism would slow down. For the other parts, he was healthy and there was nothing strange going on. She took the medical tricorder and went with it over his body. She paused at his left arm where he had a big scar::
Cattan: may I ask how you got that scar?
Brell: I got it from some very bad choices in my teenage years.
Cattan: ::her eyes widen:: that's something to endure as a child
Brell: I have not had it corrected since though its possible to be a very real reminder of consequences of my choices. And to make the right ones.
::The medial scan was running and she waited for the results::
Cattan: ::she smiles:: I've got some scars which I decided to keep for the same reason
Brell: I’m sure many do. ::Hoping the series of beeps he just heard meant the scan was done.:: So Doctor how am I?
Cattan: I see, ::she nods:: I have to be honest and in one year you did gain 5kg... I don't know if that's much for you?
::He had lost about that with great effort and portion control. He had kept up his fitness routine since taking command of Atlantis but he had not really kept his diet in line.::
Brell: Um .. no its not normal… that much in a year … I have not been watching what I eat very well.
Cattan: ::there was a beep which indicates that the scan was done:: Don't worry, the other scans came out normal and I'm not a dietitian. Besides I don't see any reason to lecture you. ::she smiles:: you love food, as do I. You know what the consequences are if you don't keep track and if you would stop going to the gym. Just try to stay fit, eat healthy and then all I can say is::she smiles:: keep up the good work.
Brell: Um that is true. Thank you Doctor.: oO Whew not that bad. Oo
::She guested he could get up as the bio-bed lowered from its raised position. He sat up pleased that this was not as bad as he had built it up to be in his mind. He was also sure both Hars and Lyldra would give him some grief over putting on 5kg however so he was not fully off the hook.::
Cattan: Sir, when do you and Hars have time to dine?
Brell: I‘m not sure with these depositions coming up. As he was on the shuttle he is on the authorities list to see as well. ::Grinning:: when you do come I promise not to have a third helping no matter how good it is.
Cattan: ::she laughs:: please contact me when you know it, I'll cook something healthy, spicy and fishy. That should do it ::she winks::
Brell: I look forward to it.
::With that he left the sickbay and what was the least dreadful physical exam he had attended in years.::
