Post-mission report regarding the halted Hunger Invasion. Included are my findings regarding the Hunger and its technologies.

Hunger Microbots and Subspace Network

Most installations related to the Hunger are completely automated and controlled through an extremely sophisticated Artificial Intelligence, referring to itself as “Patron.” I do not have the necessary skills to properly elaborate on its programming, but I can safely say it is the most advanced AI I have ever seen.

The Hunger installations are defended by a swarm of micro-robots. These robots can join together to create virtually any form, though in my two encounters they created various types of insectoid forms. These constructs are extremely complex. Each microbot acts as a cell of the entire construct. Further expanding on this concept, each construct communicates with others via an extremely complex subspace communications network. I have compared its construction as being similar to the Borg’s collective consciousness. Another analogy is like that of the humanoid brain. Each microbot is like an individual cell in the brain, and the subspace network is like the neuroelectric signals between them.

Further analysis of the network allowed me to discover a weakness I was able to exploit. I was able to generate an inverse triaxilating subspace flux pulse which canceled out the subspace network between each construct. While a group of microbots are joined into a larger construct, they are physically linked and can continue to send signals physically, but each construct was cut off from each other. This renders their shields inert and prevents them from coordinating attacks. It is like each neural cluster of the brain still works, but they are unable to send neuroelectric signals to do complex tasks.

Hunger Quantum Slipstream Corridors

The Hunger seem to have set up a network of artificial tunnels through subspace. Their construction is very similar to Quantum Slipstream discovered by the U.S.S. Voyager years ago. However, unlike our current understanding of the technology, the Hunger are able to maintain corridors instead of dynamically creating them in-flight. My sensor analyses of our flight through the corridor may be useful to Starfleet in further understanding our current Quantum Slipstream Engine technology.

Hunger Metaphasic Shielding

The primary Hunger staging portal through which they were going to launch their invasion was situated inside the photosphere of Duronis A. Considering it had been hiding there for millions of years shows they have heat shielding much more advanced than our metaphasic shields. I would also speculate that their shields or hull has some form of sensor cloaking, since the portal was never discovered before now, however being situated inside a star’s photosphere may have also served that purpose. My sensor analysis of the portal’s shields may be useful to Starfleet in refining our metaphasic shield technology.
