An antigrav is an antigravitational propulsion unit. Antigravs are the most popular propulsion system used in land and atmospheric vehicles throughout the Par'tha Expanse and Valcarian Imperial Republic. By producing a repulsor field that pushes against a planet's gravity, antigravs provide the thrust that makes most hover vehicles and air vehicles move.

The antigrav is an anti-gravity technology capable of levitating an object. It is created from subnuclear "knots" of spacetime made by enormous, unmanned power refineries encompassing black holes.

Antigravs only work within a gravity well, as the technology requires mass to push against. For a typical habitable planet such as Earth, "antigrav range" was approximately six planetary diameters, or around 76,500 kilometers. Antigravs use minimal power and are reliable enough to be left on continuously.

Antigravs can be assembled in arrays, clusters, or vanes studded with micro-coils of gravitic knots. These units are then mounted on a vehicle or spacecraft, usually on the underside. The many antigravs needed for a large ship are typically powered by a dedicated "antigrav generator."

Ships as massive as an Altharra-class Destroyer are only able to make planetfall with the aid of massive ventral antigrav suspensor units. In fact, the landing legs of some ships can not long support the ship's immense weight without the aid of antigravs.

Antigrav engines are also used in starfighters and small, atmospheric-capable starships as supplementary propulsion systems and for docking and atmospheric flight.
