Lieutenant Commander G'Renn's Personal Log - USS Atlantis - Stardate 239612.20

The Atlantis has been the very first Starfleet ship ever welcomed to Valcarian territory. I'm not sure what has gone wrong for the Valcarian ambassador to actually approve that idea, but I'm not going to complain. Reading the weather forecast for Tibro makes it seem like this is going to be Losaria all over again. Poor Savok is going to turn into an ice sculpture.

Sickbay is on fire. Metaphorically, although I would not discount the possibility of equipment literally catching fire from overuse. We've been asked to help combat the widespread cadmium poisoning on Tibro. It doesn't help that Journs' asthma has been aggravated and she's been confined to sickbay. Right now it's really just me running back and forth and trying to handhold the Valcarians through their response to this. This will be one Val Teasai not easily forgotten.

New beginnings are in the air. It's going to take some getting used to, being away from the Columbia. Savok and I are on the way to my new assignment. I have been made the chief medical officer for the USS Astraeus. Who knows what's going to be waiting for us here next. I'll record a new log later once we're settled in.

And just like that. First it was the Columbia, and now the Astraeus. The situation here in the nebula is being handed over to a more specialized and experienced crew to handle the unexpected complications. I'm off again in a few weeks. Not sure when I'm leaving or where I'm going next. That's Starfleet for you!

Captain Whittaker has been rescued from the clutches of the Augments, as well as the crew of the captain's yacht. They've really treated our officers roughly. Haneer is going to be alright. Crewman Skalvok is in much worse shape. He needs surgery and additional blood transfusions. The captain will be okay with time. He might need a cane to walk though. The full charts will be updated and uploaded to the database soon.

That was something else. I've seen promotions before. But they were always expected and made sense. To lieutenant junior grade after the plague cure. Lieutenant when Captain Zaekia departed, along with filling the newly-made opening for chief medical officer. But ambushed in front of everyone with the job of second officer. I thought that captains asked you about that kind of thing. It's fortunate that I was able to keep my reaction relatively controlled.

Pirates! The attack on the Columbia wasn't without injuries. I'm surprised that things weren't worse. Well... it can't be all bad. At least we've met someone new out here in the Reach because of it. Losarians are a bit of a question mark right now. Are they going to be allies or enemies? I suppose that only time will tell.

Acting Executive Officer's Log - USS Columbia - Stardate 239603.28

The Columbia has departed from Losaria and is en route to an M Class planet which sensor probes show to have very unusual energy readings around it. In addition, several members of the crew have transferred to a Losarian ship for a crew exchange program. Commander Jarred Thoran is included in that exchange program. As such, in accordance with my duties as second officer, I am acting as the executive officer.

We've just received word from Lieutenant Pran that they have a plan to remove the artifact from the ship. I find myself worried that I am not doing enough to help. For now I just need to monitor the situation here in engineering. Not that I am in any position to help repair the ship either.

Our away team has been retrieved from the surface. Captain Whittaker is back in command and I, both in an official and unofficial capacity, could not be happier. The ship is back in safe hands. We're going to have a lot of repairs to make, but things are stable. The Columbia is no longer in immediate danger.

If I can say anything for this mission to deploy navigational beacons, at least nobody's gotten hurt yet. It is a bit alarming to hear that one of them was destroyed. Sounds like some overzealous alien patrol overreacting. I anticipate an uneventful investigation.

That last log entry could not have been more wrong. My insides still feel like they're on fire, but at least I'm not dead. Klingon biological redundancies are amazing in what injuries they can shrug off. Hopefully I'll be up, around, and out of sickbay by the time we get back to Dehner Base. I just received a message saying that mom and dad have arrived at the station. Oh, here comes Doctor Giles! Time to get out of this recovery room and back on my feet.

The Bulls vs the Rams

Ensign G'Renn's first mission with the Andaris Task Force was no cakewalk and immediately introduced her to sickbay life at its most chaotic. An earthquake on the planet Kiros had left one of the species native to the planet, the Kirosians, with a huge emergency situation. Their neighbors the A'Kir called for Federation assistance which led the USS Blackwell and the USS Atlantis to both head for the system to provide assistance. G'Renn and her colleague Doctor Jora led triage operations in sickbay while the chief medical officer worked on the surface. The two doctors had the assistance of a majority of the ship's medical staff, including medical trainee Morin. After hours of work on everything from mending broken legs to surgery to repair a damaged lung, the worst of the medical emergency was over. The ship remained in orbit for days afterward to help in efforts to rebuild in the short-term.

I've just gotten back from the briefing. It seems that we are to respond to a natural disaster on an O-Class planet, Kiros. Right now I am gathering information on the two local species, the Kirosians and the A'Kir for Doctor Cook. No doubt we will soon see the first round of patients beamed up for treatment. Triage protocols have been implemented and everyone is standing by. Now, we wait...

It has been a very, very long day. Thankfully it is now over and has resulted in minimal loss of life. Kali- Doctor Jora and I were leading the efforts in sickbay while Doctor Cook was on the planet's surface. I just have so many questions... What about Oreall for example. Did she find her parents? Are they even still alive? I can't forget about that old man either, who almost went into shock at seeing Morin and I- (sigh) I may never know, will I?

In Sickness and in Death

See full incident report here.

The mining planetoid of Debin VII had called on the Andaris Task Force to help assist with a plague that had broken out on the planet. When the Blackwell arrived, Anath was put on a team with Doctor Cook, Lieutenant Commander R’Ven, and Lieutenant Commander Shayne to go to the surface and develop a cure. She went into the mining facility with Commander Shayne to search for any useful materials. After being separated by a rockslide, she went through the facility on her own and acquired a blood sample from patient zero. With the materials gathered in the mines, Doctor Cook and Commander R’Ven were able to develop a cure.

A cure has been discovered! With the team reunited at the research "tent", we can return to the Blackwell shortly. I've already sent along the formula for the cure so that sickbay can begin producing it. Hopefully this planet will never see another death from this plague once we're through distributing the cure.

A Test of Loyalty

See full incident report here.

On their way to provide aid in a warzone Anath received a visit in sickbay from Captain Zaekia to have a brain scan to check for dementia. At this point she also met Counselor Avran, whom she scheduled an appointment with. During this appointment, the ship struck a minefield and was heavily damaged. Admiral Renos sent a member of the security department to perform a search and rescue on Deck 11 with Anath and Avran. When Lieutenant Pandorn contacted the two, they made their way to Deck 11 and began searching for the injured. The group rescued those trapped in quarters, in the science labs, in the mess hall, and the classroom. Thankfully, a majority of those rescued survived.

Sickbay operations today have been fairly light today. We were asked to perform a few unexpected tests, but for the most part we find ourselves waiting to get to work while also hoping our services won't be needed. What an interesting paradox... After I finish my study of the Valcarian endocrine system I plan to meet with Counselor Avran.

We're still picking up the pieces from our encounter with the minefield. We lost a lot of good people, including Ensign Kalto. I keep wondering, if we had arrived at the schoolroom a little faster, could we have saved her? Did those extra few minutes cost her life? Probably not, but I can't help but... There will be time to grieve later, there are still more autopsies to perform.

Open Your Mind and Say Ahhh!

See full incident report here.

After shore leave on Oscion the USS Blackwell continued on its way. The ship arrived at Consortium Headquarters to drop off Renos. While the diplomatic mission was taking place, a situation was developing on the lower decks with some people beginning to experience some kind of mental breakdown where they were regressing into past memories. Anath began consulting with Counselors Sindrana and Stennes, discovering that the issue was something relating to telepathy. Meanwhile the ship crashed into an asteroid and the deflector dish exploded. Unable to help with emergency surgeries due to being infected, Anath worked on researching the telepathic disease after treating the injured Lieutenant Commander Wilmer. While working with the captain, Mr. R'Ven, and Didrik Stennes on a cure Anath lost consciousness and almost fell to the virus while the rest of the team worked to cure the telepathic virus.

I don't know what's going on today, but I've been feeling rather tired all day. I hear we have some new crew members joining us, so that should be rather exciting when they first visit sickbay! I've also not yet found the time to write a letter home with the good news of my promotion. With the events in the minefield and leave on Oscion I've just been rather busy. I'm sure everyone back in Memphis will- no, T'Paal City. I don't know what happened there. I guess it's a sign that the time has come to have my tea and get to bed.

Sickbay operations are all normal, but Doctor Pond has been called away. I've been hearing about some disturbances on the lower decks, but nothing specific. Hopefully we won't have to (sudden pause) Oh, there's Doctor Lux now! I'll finish this log later.

Acting Chief Medical Officer's Log - USS Blackwell - Stardate 239410.07

So, a telepathic disease of some kind is spreading throughout the ship, the ship has been crippled, Doctor Pond is gone, and we're still unsure what we're looking for. This would be difficult enough if I wasn't also feeling the effects of this aliment. Why, why is this happening? Where would we have even picked up this illness? Oscion? The civilian transport? I'm looking over the scans now, but struggling to find any physiological causes for this. I only hope that we don't find the cure too late. Not sure how I'm supposed to explain this at the staff briefing...

The crew is beginning to recover from the events of the past few days. I've been helping out as much as I can to distribute the cure, but I'm still recovering from the virus myself. I still have a burning sensation in my head, but it beats the alternative. Based on what Commander R'Ven said, I was rather close to the point of no return. I'll have to look over the results in greater detail once everything feels less fuzzy, but I have a feeling an analysis of this virus might make for a very interesting paper someday.

This has been a week. I'm still trying to process what Captain Whittaker has just told us. The Kam'Jahtae were actually the Hur'q. I fought the Hur'q...

I remember all of those stories that dad would tell Jolash, Avarak, and I about the Hur'q. Just the mention of their name would have me hiding under the covers in terror. And I drove them away. Designing a weapon feels so wrong as a doctor. That's not what I was supposed to do. "First do no harm." Using it on the Hur'q does make it feel a little better. I might have to schedule a meeting with the counseling department. None of this feels right. Right now I've got to focus on getting Ensign Drake up to speed and making sickbay run like normal again.

Field log, this will be a quick one. We've found the Forthwith, an NX-class ship. A real piece of history. I'm sure everybody would find this fascinating if we weren't stranded here. We're setting up triage to help the crew of the Forthwith. The number of weird looks I've gotten is incredible. Everybody thinks I'm about to fight them for the glory of the Klingon Empire. Understandable, I suppose, given the circumstances.

Everyone has returned from P-409 Sigma and things are looking good. The 22nd century Starfleet crew has been treated for the brief exposure to unfiltered space. There was a fight that broke out in my sickbay. The Forthwith first officer got into a fistfight with one of their engineers. Something about their captain. I'm not sure what it was all about but I almost had to call security. Being in sickbay is kind of upsetting right now. All of these people, relics out of time and grieving over their lost time, and nothing that I can do to help them.
