Her mother was the captain of a trading ship. After Aidoann was born her mother retired to her home city of New Orleans to raise her daughter. Aidoann grew up with the stories of her mother’s adventures but she has spent very little time in space herself. Her mother’s stories drew her to the stars, and she had intended to follow in her footsteps but a recruiter at her school convinced her that she would do well in Starfleet. (And truth be told, there might have been a cute boy involved somewhere too, but she will never admit that.)
She is a practitioner of Voodoo, which is something she keeps to herself since such beliefs are often dismissed in the 24th century. She has had a couple of experiences that make her convictions about her beliefs very strong. She is also an avid cliff-diver, a practice she took up while on vacation in Hawai’i for her 18th birthday.
A number of her professors at the Academy noted her curiosity and inquisitiveness, a trait that sometimes got her into trouble. It also served her well since once she latched onto a mystery she refused to let go, no matter what. Her headstrong nature and inquisitiveness also led her to change her core curriculum several times, which lead to her falling a year behind. She had started out focusing on Security/ Tactical, with the intention of going to command school at some point, but her natural curiosity led her to the sciences.
Aidoann entered Starfleet Academy at the age of 18. She originally entered the Tactical division, with the intent of becoming a security officer. While she did well in her tactical classes, she excelled in her sciences classes and when studying the tactical aspects of a new culture she found herself delving into various scientific minutiae. After her first year one of her instructors suggested that she transfer to Sciences division; a suggestion that she took to heart.
