(Description Here)''
Most of Vadan's history is unknown, and he has never given a full account of his life. El-Aurians are known to be great storytellers, though they are often guarded with the exact details of their lives.

Vadan claims to have been a farmer and artist for the first few hundred years of his life, mostly staying on the El-Aurian homeworld and living a simple life. He came to the Federation in 2293, fleeing the Borg invasion that destroyed him homeworld. Vadan spent several decades on Vulcan, one of the few non-Vulcans to be permitted to attend the Vulcan Science Academy. He studied studying under many of the preeminent scholars of that planet, including Dr. T'Pan, a subspace theoretician who would go on to become the director of the Academy. Vadan's exceptional mental abilities allowed him --with some great effort on his part-- to keep up with his Vulcan peers, and he found the Vulcans personable and fascinating. To them, he was an interesting oddity, and he suffered very little of the inter-cultural strain so often reported by humans who spend much time with Vulcans.

As his studies became more advanced, Vadan transferred to the Daystrom Institute, first as a student of Astrophysics, then Quantum Physics, Warp Theory, and finally, Temporal Mechanics. He accepted a teaching position there for a number of years, as an adjunct professor of Temporal Mechanics, a subject for which his species has a natural relationship.
''In the coding above, delete two of the headings so that only one remains. You can then type here as if you were writing on notepad to drop in some information about your character. If you want to use bullets, copy and paste the star above. You can also look on the forums and the wiki for tutorials on how to use more adventurous coding. Want to include sections for Background, Personality AND Career History? Just copy the code for the title bar above, then paste it in type in the title you want - you can add extra sections in too!''

During the Borg crisis in the 2360s, Vadan traveled to Vulcan, where he attempted to convince the Vulcan High Command to make peace with the Romulans, and gain them as an ally. The result of this effort is unknown. What is known to Starfleet Intelligence is that Vadan smuggled himself into Roluman space as part of a diplomatic mission, and was unable to return for quite some time. It is believed that his mission failed, and he was interrogated by the Romulans, then put to work for the Romulan Ministry of Science, where his considerable experience was recorded, and his theories about the Borg, Temporal Mechanics, etc. likely advanced Romulan science greatly.

Vadan eventually escaped back to Federation space, where he took an extended leave of absence from the Institute to travel the galaxy, recovering from his ordeal and re-integrating himself into Federation society. During this time, he took on a variety of occupations, working as a miner, a dealer in antiques, a musician, a children's educator, a hairdresser, a restaurant owner, a martial arts instructor, a Dom-jot hustler, a maintenance technician, and possibly other professions, before a sudden patriotic urge made him decide to enlist in Starfleet.

Owing to his previous record, Vadan's time at the Academy was irregular. Having been permitted to challenge the exams of many science classes, he spent much of his time time working on special projects, including <<<CLASSIFIED BY STARFLEET INTELLIGENCE>>> and tutoring, and also taking time to explore minors in Xenology, Archaeology, Psychology and Diplomacy.

Although Vadan achieved high marks in all of his classes, it took him a long time to get used to the chain of command, both giving and receiving orders. His species are natural advisors, preferring informal social norms, and Vadan sometimes takes issue with the strict discipline required of members of Starfleet.

During his time at the Academy, Vadan also spent a great deal of time socializing; using his free time to coach and mentor his classmates, and to help them with their problems. It was this tendency to help and guide his colleagues that made Vadan re-evaluate his choice of major. While he was several credits shy of graduating in the Science department, he decided to become a Counsellor, instead. Psychology offered him a host of interesting opportunities, and he reveled in being somewhat outside the normal command structure, yet still in a position where his advice would be heard.

Vadan is very patient and easy-going, the result of having lived for several centuries. Although his tranquility can have a calming effect on some people, it can cause others anxiety, if they believe that he should take things more seriously. Vadan is a very enthusiastic learner, with many interests and hobbies. He tends to prefer the company of others to being alone. His vast experience allows him to have an opinion on nearly everything, and he tries to be humble, so as to not seem condescending. He loves to teach and to mentor, and delights in helping people. He tends to take a back seat when it comes to command, preferring to provide counsel than to give orders.

Vadan has been married an unknown number of times, and has fathered numerous offspring, some of which have even joined Starfleet. However, only a handful of El-Aurians survived first contact with the Borg. If Vadan has surviving relatives from his homeworld, they may not be known to Federation records.
