History

Aarakocra Legend

Long ago we lived elsewhere. We lived in peace, at one with our world. It was a golden age. No poverity, hunger, disease or want, but we angered the gods and they banished us to the stars. For time beyond memory we wandered looking for a new world, a new home. Finally we found one that the gods would allow us to tread. Our homes dropped from the stars and we were finally allowed to soar upon the winds. Free from the confines of the space arks that had been our jail for countless years. We learned that we were not alone on this world. Others lived here who were not like us. They attacked and killed some of us. We were stunned, afraid. So we stayed away from them. Even when they stole the tablet of truth from us, we did not seek to retrieve it. But that was then, someday we will regain it. On that day the stars will weep and the gods will again show us the bounty of their favour.

Stone of Destiny

My father told me that using the machine we learned how to make the fisheries, and other things we needed. When the wise ones came, they mated with the early Pifili, and as far as I know, all Pifili are now descendants of the wise ones. So the machine was not hard for us to master, but it was my father who figured out the complexities of sky travel. His dream was to find the wise ones. When the revolution began, my father broke the stone key to higher calculations. He said it was too much temptation for any one person not to destroy the Aarakocra. He put two of the pieces in places where I would have much difficulty getting to them. And in places where the Aarakocra could not find them in case they succeeded in capturing the palace. Theo brought me one of them, and my father entrusted me with one. So now I have in my possession two of the stones. With all three stones I can open the calculations and bring peace back to Kallca, but that would mean the destruction of the Aarakocra, and I don't want to do that.

True History

Kaclla II is the native homeworld of the Pifili. The Aarakocra did not appear until more than 500 years ago. They fell from the sky in enormas vessels that lite up the night sky for hundreds of miles. Over night the world now had 2 totally different intelligent races seeking to survive within 1 ecosystem. Fortunately their needs for survival were sufficently different that they were able to co-exist with fairly minor conflicts that never grew in size or degree.

Government

The Aarakocra have a Chaste system with the deep purple feathered Avians forming the government. The supreme head of the government has the title of Prothoa. Below this are the 50 Proth who govern each of the 50 cities of the Aarakocra Union.

Description

The new race to this world are an Avian species. They are taller and lighter than the felines being on average 5'8" to 6'6" in height and weighting between 135 to 175 lbs. The are very slim and covered in small, to tiny feathers everywhere except for their wings, chest and the top to back of their heads where the feathers are larger.

Their feet have 1 toe sticking out the back of their foot and 2 long toes sticking out the front. All these toes end in extremely sharp talons. They can use them to walk on or to grasp objects.

Their arms/wings are one complete limb extending from their shoulders. They have a 3 fingered hand with very long slender fingers about halfway along their wing. This is the location of a major joint that allows then to fold their wings back out of the way so they can function almost like other humanoids. These hands let them perform many delicate tasks even thou they look to be very clumsy. On average an adult male will have a wing span of 12 to 15 feet.

They have a chaste system that seems to be based on the colouration of the feathers on their chest and heads. This feathered ruff comes in many different colors. Some of them are deep purple (leadership), dull brown (security), jade green (managers), brilliant blue (engineers), blazing red (medical), pure white (prophets) and dull green (farmers).

Military

The Aarakocra have by far the largest air force of the two species. In fact they have over 25,000 single seater fighters and over 15,000 three man fighter, bombers. Both types of craft have VTOL capabilities. (VTOL - vertical take off and landing) Added to this is the fact that the Aarakocra pilots excell at air combat, haveing a much greater resistance to high G's and greater targeting ability when in the air.

Their ground forces are primarily defensive and stationed in heavily armoured bunkers that control the various approaches to their cities. On average each city has around 15,000 soldier/peace keepers who can be called upon to defend the city.

In 238608 their entire space fleet was destroyed in a battle with the Pifili.

Federation Intelligance Files

On Stardate 238503.08 Fleet Captain T'Pen and the crew of the USS Challenger visited Kaclla II. This was in response to their request to join the Federation. However members with in the 2 different races liveing on the planet objected to the need for a unified world government first and joining the Federation as well. See Federation Intelligence File CHL-2385-0214.

On Stardate 238608.11 while Fleet Captain T'Pen and the crew of the USS Challenger-A were in orbit a war broke out between the Pifili (Felines) and the Aarakocra (Avians). The war started in space when a single Avian destroyer opened fire on 2 Feline destroyers. In the ensueing battle both sides suffered massive losses. See Federation Intelligence File CHA-2386-0352
