Personal History
Hatched into the Military cast (his blue tone indicative of this) Tatash has always been following a military career. While the Gorn are a civilised race, their culture still adheres to old traditions of being born into roles based on both colour and lineage. Raised as a solitary child due to his almost noble standing, he has strove to do well by his father and serve within the Hegemony's military forces.
It is this constant pressure to bring pride to his family that caused him to sail upwards in the ranks, immediatly by birthright inducted as an officer, deployed to Cestus III and moving up the ranks to Major, one of the key officers in charge of planetary security. It was here that he was introduced to the human conolists, and found that both Gorn and Human had managed to exist peacefully (after a brief conflict many years ago) and indeed build up a culture of mutual trust and friendship.
It was this exposure to mankind and other races within the Federation that prompted the Hegemony to 'volunteer' him for a diplomatic exchange program. One Federation officer was chosen to serve within the Gorn military arm, while Tatash was chosen to start from the ground up in Starfleet Academy. While older then most other cadets, his front line experience has given him a large advantage playing 'catch up' with the younger trainee's.
The hardest adjustment for him has been letting go of his former rank and privileges, and understanding the nuances of Federation culture where anyone regardless of birthright has the ability to excel. While he is not against the idea, and indeed in some ways respects it rather then challenges it, it's still something that is an alien concept.
Underneath his rather fearsome exterior, is a genuinely decent character who isn't given to rash decisions or moments of anger. This can sometimes make him seem quite aloof and uninterested in squabbles or pointless chit-chat. He does however live by the military ideals, honor and duty above all else.
As a downside to his solitary upbringing, he's quite difficult to get to know. While he isn't hostile to people striking conversation, he's quite guarded. He's happy to talk about matters of importance, or more grand conversation regarding galactic powers, he's not one to talk about the weather or how pretty Ensign so-and-so is.
Like most Gorn he is calculating and takes time to make a decision, rather then relying on gut instinct. However once a decision is made, he stops at nothing to see it through to the end. He can be summed up with the motto 'Don't act until you're sure that you're right, and then let nothing stop you.'
He does benefit from the unique strength the Gorn have, their higher gravity homeworld leaving him a fearsome opponent. What he lakes in dexterity (Gorn are not known for their swift movement) he makes up for with a terrible, hammering strength.
He does however prefer to fight with ranged weaponry, and due to his unique stature is authorised to use Type III Phaser's and other rifles as standard, due to not being able to grasp the smaller Type II and fire with sustained accuracy and usability.
While being a Gorn does give strength, it does also give weakness. Cold, even what could be considered fairly comfortable to most warm blooded humanoids, is intolerable to him. On most away teams he'll be wearing a scarf and tactical jacket rather then the more fitted issue uniform.
His quarters are kept at a nice 32c. This has however allowed him to develop quite a fondness towards tropical fish, usually trying to keep a small tank wherever he is stationed as a stress relief.
