Family photos

Hey, I noticed your "family photos" for Alexander Richards are all distorted because it looks like they were resized to 300x300 instead of cropped. You could revert them back to the original versions you uploaded and then specify the images be set as thumbnails at 300px like this: [[File:Nameofimage.jpg|thumb|left|300px|caption]] or [[File:Nameofimage.jpg|300px]] if you don't want the frame and caption.

Or if you could go back to the originals and recrop them. If you need help with either, let me know. –Rich(talk page) aka Lt.Cmdr. Rahman/MCpt. Kadosh 14:52, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

I tried that last night and got frustrated because of the server update. I'll try the revert on the pictures and put the thumb in, may even shrink the all to 250px doing thatEns Alexander Richards 14:59, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
All right. Just remember you'll have to give the server time to revert back to the old versions as well. I know it's a pain, but in the mean time, you can move on to edit other things as I always tend to do while I wait... or get something to eat. :) –Rich(talk page) aka Lt.Cmdr. Rahman/MCpt. Kadosh 15:11, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
Worked like a charm, cheers Rich. As an aside, finally wrapped my head around the age calculator so I'll be using that quite a bit :) Ens Alexander Richards 15:15, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
No worries. Also, when you create new thumbnails or tell the wiki to display your image at a different size, you'll see the updated images automatically because the server creates new images for thumbnails, smaller versions, etc from the updated file. It's just that the full size file already on the server takes time to update. –Rich(talk page) aka Lt.Cmdr. Rahman/MCpt. Kadosh 15:16, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
Glad you'll be using the age template! If you have any questions, just let me know, but the template page itself Template:Age has the full instructions. –Rich(talk page) aka Lt.Cmdr. Rahman/MCpt. Kadosh 15:18, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Formating

How do you want it to look? –Rich(talk page) aka Lt.Cmdr. Rahman/MCpt. Kadosh 18:20, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

All right, I centered the tables using the align=center parameter. Also, many of your <center> tags were unnecessary because any text that is put in a table header (i.e., anything after a !) is automatically centered (and bolded actually now that I think of it...). You can read more about how to properly format table wiki markup here. –Rich(talk page) aka Lt.Cmdr. Rahman/MCpt. Kadosh 19:30, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

Roster images

Hi Alex, it looks like a good start. The main problem is the cropping of the images, basically the same problem you had with Alex's family photos. Can you easily crop them? If not I can help you with that. –Rich(talk page) aka Lt.Cmdr. Rahman 15:12, 9 January 2014 (CST)

All right. If you have any issues, let me know. You just need to crop them so they fit down into a 100x80 dimension. I've already taken care of Whale's. Also, remember to sign your messages with four ~ at the end. –Rich(talk page) aka Lt.Cmdr. Rahman 15:32, 9 January 2014 (CST)

PS Thanks for following my existing file name convention! :D Also, I'm going to put some new ones for Rogers and Pandora since I dislike the solid white background. –Rich(talk page) aka Lt.Cmdr. Rahman 15:49, 9 January 2014 (CST)
I think you got it! :D –Rich(talk page) aka Lt.Cmdr. Rahman 16:13, 9 January 2014 (CST)

Pips

Ha, no, just experimenting with ways to make roster creation and upkeep easier! –Rich(talk page) aka Lt.Cmdr. Rahman 16:38, 28 January 2014 (CST)

New Easy Crew Nav

SB118 Ops Crew Nav

I've converted your crew nav to a new "Easy Template" version. Full instructions are available here: Template:Crew.

Among the New Features:

Simplified format to add officers

No more messy code! Makes it easier to edit position names and preview them to see if they fit correctly!

{{Tile|FIRST NAME|Last Name|UNIFORM COLOR|CURRENT POST|Roster Image}}

For example, just add:

|{{Tile|William|Rogers|Red|Commanding Officer|Roster-rogers.jpg}}

to get the next officer's tile added to the nav. |

Commanding Officer
William Rogers

IMPORTANT NOTE

If an officer only has a single name, be sure to still put an extra "pipe" character | after their name.

{{Tile|Solok||Teal|Chief Medical Officer|Roster-solok.jpg}}
Chief Medical Officer
Solok

Automatic placement of blank portrait

Places the blank portrait roster image if no roster image specified. Example:

{{Tile|M'Wash||Blue|Science Officer}}
Science Officer
M'Wash

Automatic resize of roster image

If an officer's roster image is too large for the nav, it will automatically crop and resize it to fit. Note that while this is a handy feature, it may not produce as nice an image as a properly prepared roster image.

Commanding Officer
Andrus Jaxx

Support for Nicknames/Abbreviations

If an officer's name is too long for the nav. Example:

{{Tile|Cassandra|Egan Manno|NICKNAME=C. Egan Manno|Red|Commanding Officer|Roster-eganmanno.jpg}}
Commanding Officer
C. Egan Manno

Simplified color names

Red, Gold, Blue, Teal, Violet, Black, Silver, Green

No need to change colspan

Table automatically keeps header and footer centered.

Ship placeholder image

Can be easily specified if there is an odd number of officers.

NEW UPDATE! User Correctioning of Automatic Resize and Crop

You can now tell the template to zoom into your image and change positioning! Check out the image guide for the roster template as the basic principle is the same. Just add the extra numbers for your corrections to the end of the officer's code, with the first number being how far you want the image to move up (i.e., how far do you want to see more downward), the second number being how far to move the image left (see more to the right), and the third number being how many times to zoom the image. 1.2x is a good place to start.

Example Original:

Intelligence Officer
Tracey Townson

Raw code for corrections:

{{Tile|Tracey|Townson|Black|Intelligence Officer|TraceyIntel uni.jpg|0|40|1.7}}

Intelligence Officer
Tracey Townson

Inappropriate Subcategories

Hi there! I must unfortunately undo your category edits as that is not how subcategories are meant to be treated on the wiki. Subcategories are meant to further categorize pages within the scope of the larger category. For instance, in Category:Scientists, the subcategories are different kinds of scientists: Agriculturalists, Stellar Cartographers, and Xenobiologists. Alexander Richards is not a type of scientist. Likewise, subcategories of Category:Starfleet personnel include Category:Hazard Team members. The notable exception is Category:Characters, as outlined in the instructions for complex character pages.

If you have any questions about this, please let me know! Thanks! –Rich(talk page) aka Lt.Cmdr. Rahman 14:09, 5 April 2014 (CDT)

Academy transcript

Looks like you figured it out! :D

Mind if I use your transcript as an example on the instructions?–Rich(talk page) aka Lt.Cmdr. Rahman 09:19, 5 May 2014 (CDT)

I'm still not sure what you mean "different." Can you explain further? –Rich(talk page) aka Lt.Cmdr. Rahman 13:07, 5 May 2014 (CDT)
I see what you mean now! Doh! Fixed it! –Rich(talk page) aka Lt.Cmdr. Rahman 14:11, 5 May 2014 (CDT)

Awards template

No worries. I'll take a look. In the mean time, the template guide I had started working on when Kolk asked about making these kind of templates would be a good place to start if you still have that in your inbox. ♫ Rich(talk page) aka Lt.Cmdr. FNS discussion

No problem, Rob. I can understand the concerns you've made. The idea of turning the ship reports into IC news articles was to add some spice to them and make them more fun to write (and read hopefully), but I'm fine with whatever solution satisfies the overall objective of the ship reports (that is, keeping the Executive Council and rest of the fleet properly informed about what's going on with other ships' plots). ♫ RichtalkWiki Administrator 10:58, 6 March 2015 (CST)
