Thand confides in them, explaining that a group of Orions abducted his wife. They will only release her if he hands over the phase device. John comes up with a plan. The three Starfleet officers join Thand as he travels to an Orion base located on an asteroid. They are greeted by an Orion man named Lordin, who commandeers an old interceptor. Lordin, together with one of his henchmen and Lov - Thand’s wife – beam over to the shuttle. Unbeknownst to them, John and Fairhug had transported themselves out of phase. As Lordin wants to complete the transaction, taking not only the phase device but also Ensign Forsyth to sell on the slave market, Thand activates the phase device.
