Emmanuelle was born in Upper Austria, in a little ancient town of the name of Steyr. Her family while not part of a so-called elite, remained a privileged one and the same could be said of her upbringing. Child to parents with a considerable age difference, she grew up in a tense, severely controlled environment.
With a Behavioural Psychology professor for a father, she never did have much to say in the matter of her personal choices. He is not, however, to be confused with a penurious personage for he is a caring, loving man – simply someone who knows exactly how his children are to be raised. Her mother, on the contrary, is a more frivolous soul, so to speak. A journalist, she never spent much time with her daughter while the latter was growing up. But she too lavished the girl with gifts upon return. Emmanuelle's family cherishes discipline more than anything else – but it doesn't mean that love isn't to be shown.
In every clan, there is a black sheep. The one that stand apart. In Emmanuelle's case, it is her half brother. Lenhard Meissnitzer is the son of the previous failed marriage of their common father. He is considerably older than his sister, already possessing a doctorate in Civil Law and working for a successful firm. His mother, while not exactly a vile woman, didn't grow to ignore her ex-husband's new family. Emmanuelle has her doubts that the reason her half-brother hates her is what Agathe Leigh's inventions. He never truly acknowledged her; their rare moments of interaction occurred during family gatherings. She did try to reach out to him – for it seemed the right thing to do- but he refused to meet her halfway. She doesn't exactly nourish warm feelings toward him; they've never had the opportunity to grow close. Perhaps, one day. Nevertheless, it is his rejection of accepting her into his life that led her to consider – and later chose – a Starfleet career. With nothing else to cling to in her native town, she was free to leave.
