Hetz was raised on the Edosian home planet of Edos, with a relatively uneventful childhood. His mother worked in medical research and his father in business. Hetz was always drawn to medicine through his mother - he would read the texts she brought home from work, and was fascinated by the diagrams and charts. He didn’t understand a word of the research, but wanted to. He worked his way through undergraduate and medical school. He never had much interest in space or working with Starfleet, but he found an interest in the anatomy of other species during one of his med school rotations at an entry starbase to Edos. This interest led him to interstellar medicine, and the leading research was happening in Starfleet. While he wasn’t enthusiastic about the more military side of the organization, it would allow him a chance to be one of the first to meet and document new species. While extremely young for an Edosian (most of them live for over 300 years, leading them to usually spending at least 30 years of their life slowly growing up, similar to Vulcans), Hetz was always one to want to keep pushing forward and get ahead of the curve.
