Background

Born and raised in Georgia, Earth. Cory lived a simple life, but wanted something better. Knowing his grades in secondary school were average at best, he enlisted in Starfleet.

Graduated from the Starfleet Recruit Training Command Great Lakes and promoted to Crewman Third Class and sent to Aviation Boatswain's Mate "A" school. After graduating and his promotion to Crewman Second Class, he was assigned to the USS Shiloh NCC-95201, under the command of Captain Mikal Wynne. Crewman Second Class Cory Stoyer was assigned to the Main Shuttlebay. His duties included cleaning, preservation and general up keep of the equipment in the shuttle bay.

On 238703.20 there was a shuttle crash and fire in the hanger bay where then Petty Officer Second Class Stoyer was assigned. The fire killed some of the senior petty officers and the Hanger Chief. After the fire was out the Captain promoted him to Petty Officer First Class for leadership during the fire. It was suggested that he apply to the Academy and to his surprise was accepted. He started there on 238709.07.

At the academy, Cory was an indifferent student. His best subjects were history (his minor) and things that related to his time as a Starfleet Petty Officer. The higher education stuff bored him and his grades suffered. But he was a solid “B” student. His fellow classmates helped him with the more involved subjects. In turn he taught them the difference between the academy and real life on a starship. At 24, when he started the academy, he acted as an older brother to the students. After his cadet cruise, Cory was assigned to the U.S.S. Constitution-B.

Cory's time so far onboard the Constitution has been very interesting. Seeming to jump from one crisis to the next without a pause. Being a bridge officer is the highlight of his career so far.

On 239202.16 Cory was transferred to the U.S.S. Excalibur-A as the HCO Officer. The Excalibur was a different ship than the Constitution, but Cory worked to ensure that he Excalibur was prepared for everything. On 239205.03 Cory was transferred to the U.S.S. Victory as the Helm Officer. Fleet Captain Nicholotti promoted him to Lieutenant as the Excalibur-A was decommissioned.

After settling into his duties onboard the Victory, Cory and Captain Nurga spoke about his career and options. Cory accepted the Chief Engineer's position on the Victory.

On 239207.15 The U.S.S. Victory was decommissioned. Cory was transferred to the U.S.S. Gorkon as the Acting Chief Engineer. On 239207.17 Captain Reynolds made the position permanent.

Cory's time onboard the Gorkon was one of hard work and learning how to be a Chief Engineer. During the Year of Hell, when the Gorkon was trapped in another universe, Cory learned about leading and what his job really entailed. He left is wife Petra back in the prime universe. When the ship was rescued and Cory was reunited with his wife, their reunion was short lived. Petra was arrested for assisting in the theft of the Yarahla. Cory was sent to Starfleet Medical on Earth while the ship underwent repairs at McKinley station.

After several more years and many more mission as Chief Engineer, Cory asked for and was granted a new position as Mission Specialist onboard.

After the dreamscape, where he was a Maquis fighter, Cory awoke with Ayiana Sevo in his arms. Things spiraled down from there. Cory didn't realized it at the time, but feelings for his friend crept to the surface and he was in denial of them. When he came clean to his wife, she reacted about as well as Cory could expect. After, he stopped speaking with Petra and avoiding her as much as possible as he wrestled with the feeling for both women. Eventually Petra was offered a position on the USS Triumphant, along with a promotion. She left Cory to take the position.

Personality

Cory is quiet observant person. Always carrying around his PADD with his books downloaded on it, just in case he gets a chance to read for a little bit. He is eager to learn and understand his role as an officer of Starfleet. His passion is history. He enjoys reading on naval warfare and organization of militarizes. Always on the lookout for a good time. Willing to help out anyone. Generally a nice guy.

B-Plot Award 239606.24 USS Gorkon We're blessed on the Gorkon with a wealth of writers who treat us to insights into their character's personal lives and struggles. One such plot that has really stood out over the past few months is that of Cory Stoyer, a married man struggling with the realisation that he had longings for a friend. We saw him make choices good, bad and downright foolish as he navigated his way through an impossible situation that resulted in divorce, the breakdown of friendships and resonated through his professional life as well as the personal. It was a wild ride, for both the character and readers, and so we award Cory Stoyer the B-Plot Award for showcasing the good, the bad and the ugly of his character's personal life.
Sheathed Sword 239606.24 USS Gorkon Of all the scars left behind by the venture into the Skarbek mission, none so has been more keenly felt than that of Cory’s wounded struggle. Exploring the conflicts and pitfalls of discovering his love for a close friend, Cory has demonstrated the anguish and grief stemming from a breakdown in his marriage, the indecision and painful emotional torment of believing he is getting what he deserves for straying away, until he finally hit rock bottom and had to start building himself back up. It’s been a rollercoaster of passionate heartache for Cory, a solid dagger in the soul that still has its hooks in a doubting mind, and so this year, Cory Stoyer is awarded the Sheathed Sword. Congratulations!
5-Year Member 239706.24 USS Gorkon 5 year with Starbase 118.
Sheathed Sword 239906.27 USS Gorkon The Sheathed Sword is an award we present not just for putting characters through the ringer, but exploring the consequences of those experiences. Cory Stoyer is a fantastic example of what a writer can do when they choose to let their character be flawed and make mistakes. We’ve seen him break and rebuild relationships and battle with his own self-doubt, while always striving to become the person he wants to be. It’s made for compelling reading and a fascinating character, and I’m proud to recognise Mike with the Sheathed Sword!

With your achievements in mind, I'm pleased to present you all with the Intelligence Star."
Operation Safe Harbor Service Medal "In addition, for our work in Ma no Umi against insurmountable odds, and a few pirates, Starfleet has seen fit to award us all with the Operation Safe Harbour ribbon. Purple Heart 239907.20 USS Gorkon Vice Admiral Quinn Reynolds "As many of you know, I like to begin these ceremonies with one of the more difficult ribbons to receive. Difficult because of the personal hardship it represents; an award which recognises our willingness to endure injury in the service of others."
