It is often accompanied by visual hallucinations. It is treated by small doses of synthetic glucocorticoid administered when symptoms occur. It was first discovered in Ensign Tu'Peq of the USS Blackwell by Lieutenant Isabel Pond, MD, aboard the USS Atlantis.
