Taurek's betrothal was formally dissolved by agreement of both parties in 2349 and he underwent physical reconfiguration surgery at nineteen years old.

He went on to study psychotherapy and counselling off-world before entering the Academy with the aim of becoming a Starfleet counsellor.

Though he maintains a Vulcan outlook, Taurek endeavours to gain as much emotional insight into other species as possible, and is unusually understanding for a Vulcan.

The Proust Questionnaire

[Completed as part of a team-building exercise in Starfleet Academy, year 2 (Q4 intake)]

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Assuming 'contentment' can substitute - a calm and rational mind, and the ability to exercise compassion.

What is your greatest fear?

The short answer is that Vulcans endeavour not to experience fear. The long answer would require more space and time than we have here.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

I try to approach personality traits with understanding and analysis rather than judgement.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?

See above.

Which living person do you most admire?

My father.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Occasionally I indulge in a certain genre of serialised holovid - I believe in FSE they are "Soap Operas"? They provide remarkable insight into their cultures of origin, but I must also admit that I derive satisfaction from a well-executed plot.

What is your current state of mind?

Open.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?

Unconsidered adherence to tradition.

On what occasion do you lie?

I avoid lying, but it is sometimes necessary to be economical with the truth in social situations.

What do you most dislike about your appearance?

Nothing. I am at peace with my appearance.

Which living person do you most despise?

"Holding on to hatred is like taking poison and expecting the enemy to die."

What is the quality you most like in a man?

Compassion.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

Compassion.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

I am told that counselors are notorious for the phrase "And how does that make you feel?"

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

My family.

When and where were you happiest?

Whilst meditating.

Which talent would you most like to have?

Telepathic empathy.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Nothing. I am at peace with myself.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Surviving through adversity.

If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be?

Interesting. I would need more parameters before answering fully.

Where would you most like to live?

Anywhere I can be of use.

What is your most treasured possession?

I do not attach sentimental meaning to material objects.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Being unable to help others.

What is your favorite occupation?

Listening.

What is your most marked characteristic?

Probably my desire to understand others.

What do you most value in your friends?

Compassion.

Who are your favorite writers?

I have a slight preference for mythological and transcribed oral works, which tend to have no single established author.

Who is your hero of fiction?

I am often drawn toward heroes or heroines who triumph through great personal hardships; the list is extensive.

Which historical figure do you most identify with?

A little-known pre-Enlightenment Vulcan scholar named Tamnet, who lived as male despite being born female until his murder at the age of approximately thirty-one.

Who are your heroes in real life?

My tutors; my colleagues; my family.

What are your favorite names?

I have never considered it.

What is it that you most dislike?

Suffering and inequality.

What is your greatest regret?

I have none.

How would you like to die?

Peacefully, at an advanced age.

What is your motto?

"Reach out to others courteously. Accept their reaching in the same way, with careful hands." (Surak)
