- The Kesprytt are a humanoid species that is split into two separate political factions that have been enemies for centuries. This hostility towards each other and their inability to even consider the possibility that the other side might not be a danger to them has prevented them from establishing a lasting peace between their two factions.

History
The Kesprytt developed over time into two major different political factions. In the beginning there were a few minor disagreements. These escalated and some aggressive activity erupted to further escalate these issues. Over time the differences between them deteriorated even further and this resulted in border conflicts, raids and surprise attacks.
This was followed by a number of minor wars that were interrupted for a few short years by a series of temporary truces. Unfortunately these did not last and the last one was ended by a massive worldwide war that lasted slightly more than 3 centuries.
This time the temporary truce left them locked in a hostile and fearful stalemate for centuries. One that saw an occasional raid or border skirmish further heightened the already tense situation. It could not last and another world wide war erupted.
This one was even worse than the first. Weapons were more powerful, with greater range and packed a much bigger punch when they hit. Whole communities along their mutual land border were wiped out. Civilian casualties mounted and this resulted in the formation of a no-man’s strip of land that they would fight across for another 2 centuries.
Finally when this war petered out neither side felt any temptation to try and settle anybody on or near this border. Instead by mutual agreement this border has remained unoccupied except for troops and weapons. Eventually once their technology had progressed to the point where force field generators could be produced they used them to define their border.
In 2370, the Kes applied for Federation membership. While the Federation was wary of accepting a planet that had yet to be unified, they sent the USS Enterprise-D to investigate. The Kes invited Doctor Beverly Crusher and Captain Jean-Luc Picard on a diplomatic mission to their territory, but the Prytt kidnapped them, believing their purpose was malevolent.
The Prytt had no ambassadors, no emergency contact procedures, nor indeed any means of contacting the Kes. The last official diplomatic contact between the two parties took place almost a century prior to the incident; more recent, less formal contacts (which the Kes were not at liberty to discuss with the Federation) made little progress toward peace.
When Kes and Prytt dignitaries met aboard the Enterprise-D to discuss the fate of the two prisoners, so many wild conspiracy theories and childish arguments were leveled by each party against the other that Commander William Riker quickly lost interest in the negotiations. When the doctor and captain were rescued, they recommended to the Federation that they deny the Kes' application until the Kes and Prytt were unified.
Since then Federation observers have noticed no progress being made towards a final peace between them. In fact their does not seem to be any effort being made by either side to even begin any negotiations.
Government
They are divided into two rivaling nation-states known as the Kes and the Prytt whose common border is divided by a force field.
Kes Government
The Kes are led by a Premier and the advisory group that provides him with the data needed to make his decisions and then enforces or carries out his policies is called the senate.
Prytt Alliance
The Prytt are led by a prime minister, whose office was held by Horath in 2370. There was also a security council, led by the security minister, whose office was held by Lorin in 2370.
Description
They appear to be your typical humanoid species, one that looks very much like Caucasian humans from the planet Earth. They have a wide range of heights, weights, body types, as well as hair and eye color.
Physiology
As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. They are typical humanoids with most of the physical, mental and biological medical problems that seem to plague most humanoids.
Psychology
Due to the long conflict between the two nations, all Kesprytt have developed unusual tendencies in regards to how they interact with their enemy and with other species. The Kes tend to be deeply suspicious and paranoid of everyone and anyone who is not a fellow Kes and the Prytt tend to be extremely reclusive and xenophobic.
Since all Kesprytt are from the same species they all suffer from the same types of mental health issues. These tend to be a deterioration of the mental facilities in the very old and also include a number of minor and a few major mental health issues among individuals of any age.
Religion
Kes
The Kes believe that the spirit lives on after death and that it watches over the loved ones that it was forced to leave behind when it died.
Prytt
The Prytt believe in rebirth and the unending cycle of life. They have all lived before and they will all be reborn again to live another life. This cycle will continue forever with them living again and again till the end of time.
Mythology
Both sides have a wide range of myths, fables and legends which include a number of tales about how the hostilities started between them and the enemy. In every case they both agree that it was all the fault of their enemy and try as much as they did the enemy proved to be too treacherous and untrustworthy for them to be able to negotiate any form of lasting peace.
Society
Neither society has very much crime and both try to provide the best services and infrastructure to as many of their people as they can in order to improve their quality of life. Unfortunately large numbers of their population are active in either the military, the police or their own particular versions of the intelligence and counter intelligence agencies.
Culture
Both sides appreciate most forms of artistic expression and both sides have talented artists of all kinds. However they have no interest or appreciation for any artistic form of expression created by the enemy and almost no interest or appreciation for those art forms created by other alien species.
Customs
Both nations have their own unique and independent set of customs. This is just another area of conflict and contention between them. Their differences are just another reason not to trust or understand the enemy.
Technology
Both nations have a progressive research and development program but they also have a very aggressive industrial and technological espionage program that works to steal and sabotage the programs and achievements of their enemies. As a result they are still collectively lagging noticeable behind even the least advanced member world in the Federation.
With that in mind some experts consider it to be something of a mild miracle that the Prytt were able to develop, design and manufacture a psi-wave device which could implement telepathy between two people.
Also they have developed, constructed and maintain a series of force field generators that run the entire length of their shared land border. In reality both the Kes and the Prytt operate and maintain their own force field wall about 50 feet apart all along their shared border.
Economy
Surprisingly enough there is almost no trade between the Kes and the Prytt. Almost all of their trade is off world with other species and governments. As a result they have both been able to generate more revenue and improve the overall quality of life for their citizens.
Unfortunately this is also just another area of conflict and contention between them. Anytime a freighter is ambushed or attacked by pirates they blame the other side. Also they routinely undercut each other in order to deny their enemy this cargo or that product. It just serves to keep the hostile feelings between them stoked and burning.
Military
They both have fairly strong military forces and a large percentage of their budgets are spent on troops and military technology and equipment. That being said actual open conflict is avoided as much as possible but when it does escalate into all out combat it is a vicious, no holds barred battle.
Federation Intelligence Files
The Kes are one of the two Kesprytt states on Kesprytt III and controlled three quarters of the planet. They maintained hostilities with the Prytt, a nation-state controlling the other quarter of the planet, but who were of the same species.
In 2370, the bigger part of this race (the Kes) applied for associate Federation membership, but this request was denied.
