History

A thousand years ago, the Ventaxians had achieved an extremely advanced technological level, but then voluntarily renounced it and reverted to a simple, agrarian existence. Since then, their culture has been peaceful and prosperous, with virtually no social problems as a result of this 1,000 year improvement plan called the "Contract of Ardra.". They panicked in 2367 when a con artist posing as Ardra returned to claim "her" planet until the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D crew successfully revealed her fraud; Captain Picard pointed out that Ardra may likely have been a secret native ruse to help push the reforms. Although agrarian, their capital city still featured tall pyramidal buildings and large public walkways.

Government

They have a central government with every small community and city district having a small council of 5. This small council oversees all of the necessary duties involved with running that community or district. The main planetary government has a council of 10 that advise their head of state.

In 2367 this individual was Acost Jared, a religious zealot who almost handed the planet over to a con artist due to his beliefs. Immediately following this occurrence he was removed from power and replaced.

Description

Ventaxians are friendly and mostly nondescript. They appear to be Caucasian terrans except with no truly obese individuals or anyone who is abnormally tall or short. They have a very stable genetic make up.

Physiology

While they appear to be terran, their physical make up is sufficiently different as to eliminate any possibility of any common background.

Psychology

As a species they are fairly stable with the normal assortment of mental diseases found with in most intelligent humanoids.

Religion

The placid and tolerant Ventaxian countryside is used by some religious orders as a site of monasteries and abbeys. Their theology held that the reforms were sparked after leaders literally sold out for prosperity by signing a pact with "the devil," Ardra, but aside from considering her name unlucky to speak aloud the people lived uneventfully.

They have a very unusual belief system. For them the belief in a devil being called Ardra replaces a divine saviour. After all it was Ardra who ended the senseless civil war and famine that was threatening the entire planet. It is as a result of this Contract of Ardra that they have had 1,000 years of peaceful co-existence. Still many religious leaders feel that it was a sell out and are actively opposed to any favourable representation of Ardra.

Mythology

In their mythology, their version of the Devil is known as Ardra. Over a thousand years ago, Ardra saved the Ventaxians from a crippling civil war and famine and promised them a millennia of prosperity in exchange for their enslavement afterwards.

Society

They have a fairly peaceful agrarian society with few huge cities and many small towns surrounded by farms, pastures and orchards. The people of these communities work together to ensure that they all enjoy the bounty of their work equally.

The few cities that they have are industrial centers based on districts and with tall pyramidal buildings and large public walkways. Each district within a city works like a small community with everyone working together to ensure the best quality of life for everyone living and working there.

Culture

Music and dance are the most popular forms of artistic expression. However statues and paintings are also used as well. Strangely enough religion does not factor into these endeavors. Music and dance are lively, uplifting and joyful while painting, statues and other static forms of expression are calming, peaceful and tranquil.

Customs

The use of the name Ardra is considered unwise but many use it as a minor curse or swear word. Other than that religion has no day to day practical impact.

Courtship is a slow process with the agreement of both families needed prior to a wedding being planned. These celebrations are usually large major events with in either small communities or city districts.

Technology

Ventaxian technology is somewhat behind modern standards, probably since the Ventaxian people have minimal interest in spaceflight. They were once a technological humanoid culture but they retreated to an agrarian society a millennia ago.

Economy

They are mostly self sufficient and require very little. However they do trade excess agricultural supplies for some trade goods. Surprisingly enough these imports are usually exotic fruits, clothing and unusual types of clothing materials.

Military

They have no military. In fact they abolished the use of military forces about a 1,000 years ago as part of the "Contract of Ardra." Prior to that they fought numerous civil wars, the last one so devastating that it affected most of the planet.
