Leo Graven Beaufytor is the product of a brief extra-marital encounter between a Pythron woman, Thera Datchet-Beaufytor (wife of a member of the Pythron military elite), and a gifted Byzallian technocrat, Mons Vor, that took place during a peace conference that was intended to unite the two planets after generations of hostility. For the first five years of his life, Leo was raised in happiness and comfort, as his mother's husband never questioned his legitimacy.

But when his biological father found out about his existence, Leo was kidnapped from Pythro and taken to his father's compound on Byzatium where he was renamed Graven. His father truly believed that the boy would forget his mother, but Graven never did. Once he was old enough, he began his training in everything from intergalatic politics to sword-fighting. It was his father's hope that one day Graven would take over not only his empire, but the Byzallian government and then Pythro.

When Beaufytor was eighteen, his Father demanded that he join him in an assassination attempt against the Premier of Byzatium. Shocked by the treachery planned, Beaufytor not only disobeyed his Father, but informed the authorities of his plot. The coup was foiled and Mons Vor was forced to flee the planet, vowing revenge, something that continues to weigh on his son's mind almost ten years later.

Graven had to make a choice between following in his father’s footsteps and falling into a life of crime, or making a career for himself on the right side of the law. He had a good mind and a strong sense of adventure, so he applied to Starfleet Academy with the help of the Federation Ambassador, who believed that breaking away from his father demonstrated the strength of character necessary for prospective cadet.

Career

At the Academy, Beaufytor excelled in his tactical and security classes, and upon graduation, was assigned as a security officer to the USS Independence-A and then to the USS Tiger-A.

He joined Starfleet under Graven Monsvor, the name his father chose for him, but recently decided to change it back to Beaufytor.

Personality

Having been raised almost entirely under his father's influence, away from his mother's more benevolent people, Leo quickly learned to box up any feelings or emotions that would have earned him severe punishment. He became serious and focused, rarely smiling or partaking in any form of frivolity.

Even after he was out from under his father's thumb, he continued to keep himself in check. Some of his classmates at the Academy even called him cold and heartless, although those who took the time to get to know him spotted a wry sense of humor beneath his cool composure. And although he might not have been popular, thanks to his authoritativeness which earned him followers and good looks which earned him admirers, he never lacked for companionship, male or female.

Relationships

Although he has not made many actual friends since the Academy, he has become interested in Lieutenant JG Velana, who has proven to be equally interested in him, although he is concerned that she may be too innocent for a man with his background.

He has also made a connection with Lieutenant Commander Tracey Townson, and while he has yet to discover if there is as much physical passion between them as he's experienced with Velana, he wonders if she might be a better match to the darker parts of his soul.
