Backstory/Timeline
Brynn was born into the J'naii homeworld in the latter half of the 24th century, about 8 years after a tension-filled visit from a Federation vessel. While J'naii culture is generally, isolationistic, a growing movement for more engagement with the wider galaxy started to foment. When Brynn was 9 several businesses on J'naii collapsed (including nir grandparents') as their isolationistic policies hurt trade. While still entrenched in their culture, Brynn's family became staunch advocates of promoting greater engagement with others.
After Brynn completed nir schooling (Principal Degree in Computational Systems), ne sought a scholarship to study off-world. Brynn and 5 others were selected as the inaugural class of "exchange students" with various major powers. Brynn is studying at Starfleet Academy (Ops) and nir family is hosting a Starfleet student on their world (a Brikar).
While Brynn hasn't necessarily struggled with living in a more gendered society, it also hasn't been easy on nem. Brynn has developed a few disarming one-liners about the issue and still feel that nir society is a superior, more evolved state, but is trying to be open-minded as befits a Starfleet Officer. Brynn is not at all confident that Starfleet will be nir long-term career, but is determined to make a good initial go of it and demonstrate, by extension, how much the J'naii have to contribute.
