The Ithassa Region is a region of space located near Tholian and Gorn territory, in close proximity to the Tzenkethi as well. This taskforce is comprised of three separate vessels and a station.
History
The Ithassa region is named for its discover the infamous astrophysicist, Sjori Ithassa. It comprises an area of 500 light years by 1000 light by 30 light years. The nearest major powers are the Gorn and Tholian people. The Tzenkethi have also recently shown interest in this region.
Major exploration of the area was ready to begin in 2311 when the Tomed Incident occurred which left thousands of Federation citizens dead and resulted in the treaty of Algeron. At that point resources meant from the Itahassa region were redeployed to the triangle to reinforce the neutral zone.
This left only a DS station (DS17) in the area, which successfully if slowly gathered information on the region. During the Dominion war the station's resources were diverted for the war effort, and it became virtually an automated outpost.
The Federation council feels now is the time to return to a robust exploration of this area. It is vast, at warp 9 it would take 1000 days to cross. A new task force () has been assigned to region.

Politics
Federation presence
The United Federation Of Planets has a presence within the region in the form of a Starfleet Task Force. Task Force E001 is based in the region and consists of the Independence, Triumphant, Ursa Major, Wallace, Hammond (NPC), Bonaventure (NPC), and First Response (NPC).
The fleet is also bolstered by a Deep Space station in the region. Deep Space 17 is based in orbit of the neutron star Eratis.
