History:

The daughter of a rich American businessman and an Englishwoman of old money, Eleanor ended up in StarFleet for one reason and one alone: A fascination with starships. With how they operate and how they work. She has primarily pursued an engineering discipline, with this in mind.

Her father, who wished her to take over the family business (she is an only child), disowned her when she entered the academy. She has, by now, almost got over this, and remains on speaking terms with her mother, although the two women do not tell the family patriarch.
