Class 1 Priority Alert

Starfleet Intelligence has designated this species a

Class 1 Priority

"You are inferior and maybe unworthy of our presence."
a Vian greeting.
The Vian are a mysterious humanoid species who seems to believe that they are superior to all other species.
At this time, no contact has been made with them except for the one encounter in the Minara system prior to the sun going supernova. Based on what is known about their technology, Federation scholars believe that their new homeworld is somewhere outside the current explored regions of space or they have managed to cloak their new homeworld from detection as they seemed to have done in the past.

Old Home System

  • Quadrant: Alpha
  • Location: Miletos Sector (coordinates A27-0002-1300)
  • Proper Name: Minara system
  • Star: It went supernova and destroyed everything in the system.

New Home System

  • Quadrant: Unknown
  • Location: Unknown Sector (coordinates unknown at this time)
  • Proper Name: Unknown
  • Star: It orbits a class ? (?) star
  • Distance from Star: Unknown
  • Companions: Unknown
  • Moons: Unknown

Original Home World

  • Proper Name: Ashan Vias
  • Their original home world was destroyed when the sun went supernova.

New Home World

  • Proper Name: Unknown
  • Diameter: Unknown
  • Gravity: Unknown
  • Axial Tilt: Unknown

History

The Vians were a civilization of humanoid lifeforms who lived in the Minara star system. It is believed that prior to the immanent destruction of their star system that they had used their advanced technology to completely conceal their presence from all other species.

In 2268 the Federation starship USS Enterprise entered the system to evacuate a scientific outpost studying the possibility that the systems sun might explode. An Enterprise landing party discovered the outpost abandoned.

Taking advantage of the confusion, the Vians captured Captain Kirk, Mister Spock, and Doctor McCoy and subjected them to tests as part of a bizarre plan to provoke an instinct for self-sacrifice in Gem, a member of the Minaran species.

In testing the Minaran and the Anjurwan, the Vians had decided to only save them from the supernova blast if the species demonstrated its worth. Indeed, there were others in the system that they would not be able to save based on their decision.

The Vians were eventually persuaded to release the Enterprise captives after being convinced that the Starfleet crew did not deserve to be sacrificed because they, too, possesses a strong benevolent sense of self-sacrifice. The Minaran were saved and transported to a far corner of the galaxy. The Vians also saved the Anjurwan when the Minara's sun went supernova and destroyed all of the planets in the system. The Vians transported them to the Delta Quadrant.

This encounter is the only one on record. Since the destruction of the Minara star system they have not been encountered.

Description

About the same size as humans, their hairless heads are somewhat triangular and feature several prominent ridges. They have greyish skin. They are immune to the Vulcan nerve pinch. Those encountered to date wore long robes made of a metallic fabric and carried only a single observed piece of equipment: their energy transfer device.

Technology

The Vians had a technological capability greater that the Federation when they made first contact in the 23rd century. Without too many external signs of such advancement, the Vians could transport the entire inhabitation of one planet across interstellar distances. They also could manipulate the minds of humanoids, creating illusions based on an individual’s memories or expectations.

The energy transfer devices responded only to the thoughts of one owner, and could only be adjusted another thought pattern with some degree of difficulty. The device could facilitate instantaneous matter transportation, create environmental alterations, warp the fabric of time, perform medical procedures, and generate an emotion-sensitive force field. Spock, in particular, was able to manage his mental state to such a degree that the force field ignored him. He theorized that the energy transfer device was linked to a remote energy source.
