During the Klingon Invasion of 2389, the USS Thunder, a Cheyenne Class vessel, was destroyed in an orbital battle over Duronis II. As a replacement, StarFleet assigned Fleet Captain Toni Turner an Akira Class to be named as the second in the Thunder series.
