The Hammond

The USS Hammond was the first of the new Axis Class vessels to be assigned to Starbase 118, and was the under the command of Captain O'Malley. The Hammond was a dedicated search and rescue vessel, which could also act as an escort to mercy or evacuation missions.

The Hammond was named to honour General Nero Rackler Maximillion, who spent nearly 20 months working with warring factions on Hirop Prime. He was able to bring about what was later named 'the impossible peace', so unlikely had peace seemed. Today, the planet has successfully joined the Federation. After his death, Maximillion's family was approached by Federation officials about a suitable way to honour him, and his family informed them of his wishes that any future credit be dedicated to his birth town, Hammond in North America, Earth.
