Having a lot of work time, the Marines' main requirement is down time to relax and eat their meals. The Mess Hall is a vital part of Marine life as it highlights the Unit's need to live and work together in every aspect. It is expectant of the Marines to eat at least three meals a day for strength and nutrients, a diet designed for optimum efficiency by Starfleet Medical Corps.
It is commonly believed that a unit that fights and lives together works better. They become a family instead of colleagues and the "work" becomes life, instead of a job. A soldier learns to protect their brothers and sisters in a way that a pack of Wolves would.
