Backstory
Netial grew up in a refuge camp in the Sahving Valley. Her mother used to talk about how beautiful the land used to be, before the Cardassians. After the occupation, her mother dedicated her life to bringing the beauty back to those Bajoran areas that had been desecrated. Her father brought laughter to those that had nothing to laugh about. He was the comedian, and the only time he ever lost the sparkle in his eyes was when he saw his family starving or his friends being hurt. But he kept on being funny, because they needed something to laugh about. He now owns a joke shop.
Netial is awkward. She has a deep fear of authority, and she often finds herself blubbering around them and dropping things. She'll say the oddest things, too. She once said to the admiral, when he asked if his back would get any worse, "Sure as you please." She is also deathly afraid of the Klingon K'calb, resident chef aboard the Ursa. He once sent her screaming in terror from the kitchen. She's known to have a little too much fondness for hot fudge sundaes, introduced to her by her human friend, Kay Nichols. Netial is a little fluffy and has called herself a Beruvian whale.
A short-lived almost romance with a former fellow Bajoran and USS Kodiak crewmember left her a bit heart cracked, and because of that and her self consciousness about her weight, she has been reluctant to get into any other relationships.
Recently, however, because the pathogen that took so many lives on DS17 also claimed the life of Kay, her very best friend, she has been unable look at another hot fudge sundae and has slimmed down.
Quotable Quotes
- While Unknowingly Drunk on Dr. Pepper
Kale: You know what is really funny? ::Netial started giggling.:: Cup. Cup. Isn't that funny? Cup. Or nose. Nooossssse.
Netial reached out and apparently concentrating hard, touched Kay on the tip of her nose.
Kale: Yours is like a little mushroom, you know? ::Netial sniffed.:: You're my best friend, Kay Nichols. ::She stage whispered to Carlita.:: But YOU are my friend friend, you know?
Later, her dreams were filled with Klingons skewering her in the brain, little Ferengis having parties in her stomach, and a quite friendly Gorn eating her eyeballs while he asked her to season them.
- On Her Fear of Officers
oO Officers don't bite, officers don't bite, officers don't bite. Oo
- On Dating
Nichols: Well, you aren't thin, not that it's a bad thing. Carlita has no problem carrying you, so it's not that you've gained too much weight. You just like the hot fudge sundaes a bit too much.
Kale: Yeah, yeah. Which is why you get the dates and I don't.
Nichols: Oh, please. What was Sanderson, Phillips, and Barrett last month and Gresh the month before?
Kale: Curiosity dates?
Nichols: Huh?
Kale: They really wanted to see if I could pack away a hot fudge sundae in less than two minutes.
- On Hot Fudge Sundaes
Kale: My father once said, Netial, someday, an overly tall, nosy, boisterious Terran will introduce you to the dessert to ruin all other desserts. When that time comes, you must relent or suffer needlessly. I decided to take his advice.
