While most decks on the station span the standard height of 4.5 meters, the Commercial Sector is constructed such that its 10 decks are grouped into five double-level decks. This means that some stores may have two levels once you enter, or that some shops might be situated directly above others. On the promenades, there are mezzanines that allow access to the the both levels, but that do not obstruct the wide open space that created by the full 9-meter ceiling height. This also allows the holodecks to be full size.

Deep Space 224 (DS224) is a large station in The Borderlands. As the focal point of the Federation's and Starfleet's presence in the region, it has many facilities to support a range of diplomatic, scientific, cultural, educational, and economic activities. With 397 decks, DS224 maintains an average population of approximately 9,000 (5,000 crew and 4,000 residents), although it can accommodate a maximum of 11,700 (5,700 crew and 6,000 residents).

Decks 1–230 are the commercial, habitat, and operations decks. Decks 231–397 are cargo bays, docking bays, engineering, power, weapons, shuttle bays and ship repair facilities.

Decks 1–5: Communications and deep space sensors

Besides the controls and access to the electronics that control all the communications and deep space sensors this area also houses an emergency back up power system. This system is strong enough to operate the top 15 decks of the station. Their is also an emergency back up life support system that can do the same.

Decks 6–15: Operations

Day to day operations of the station are overseen by the highest ranking officer on the station, although these duties are to be turned over to the senior staff of the USS Gemini while the ship is docked for repairs.

Operations Center (Ops)

The Operations Center, also called Main Ops or simply Ops, is DS224's command and control facility. It contains, among other things, the station commander's office, a turbolift, a transporter room, and a viewscreen.

Observation Room

There is at least one observation room on Deck 9.

Security Office

The office of the Chief of Security is located on Deck 7.

Sickbay

The station Sickbay is located on Deck 12.

Decks 16–220: Habitats

DS224 can accommodate a maximum of 5,700 crew and 6,000 civilian residents, although it usually maintains an average crew of approximately 5,000 and a civilian population of approximately 4,000.

Decks 16–40: Officers Quarters

Due to the nature of duty on a space station, all Starfleet officers regardless of rank are assigned their own quarters. Offiers are permitted to bring families aboard.

  • Decks 16 to 30 are for senior officers with quarters for 20 officers per deck
  • Decks 31 to 40 are for junior officers with quarters for 40 officers per deck.
  • There is a gymnasium on Deck 35.

Decks 41–42: Diplomatic Quarters

Decks 41–42 have 10 quarters per deck. However these quarters have multiple rooms. This would allow a diplomat to have some of his staff close to him if he wanted.

Decks 43–119: Crew Quarters

Due to the nature of duty on a space station, all Starfleet enlisted crew regardless of rank are assigned their own quarters. Crewmen are permitted to bring families aboard.

  • Decks 43 to 67 are for senior crewmen with quarters for 40 crewmen per deck.
  • Decks 68 to 119 are for junior crewmen with quarters for 80 crewmen per deck.

Decks 120–121: Conference Rooms

  • Deck 120 has 5 conference rooms.
  • Deck 121 has 10 conference rooms.

Decks 122–220: Civilian Quarters

  • Decks 122–172 house larger civilian quarters, with each deck containing 40 living spaces.
  • Decks 173–220 house smaller civilian quarters, with each deck containing 80 living spaces.

Decks 221–230: Commercial Sector

For a list of former Commercial Sector establishments, please see Guide to Deep Space 224/Former.

While most decks on the station span the standard height of 4.5 meters, the Commercial Sector is constructed such that its 10 decks are grouped into five double-level decks. This means that some stores may have two levels once you enter, or that some shops might be situated directly above others. On the promenades, there are mezzanines that allow access to both levels, but that do not obstruct the wide open space created by the full 9-meter ceiling height. This also allows the holodecks to be full size.

Deck 221–222: Holosuites

There are at least three Holodecks and a number of Holosuites in the vicinity of the Promenades. All three of the holodecks are the standard size found on most stations, with an interior of 20' high, 60' wide and 60' long.

Most of the holosuites are the standard size of 10' tall, 20' wide and 20' long. A few of them are of the deluxe size being 10' tall, 30' wide by 40' long.

Deck 223–224: The Junction

A quiet canteen for those who prefer their meals undisturbed.

Decks 225–226: First Promenade

Arboretum

The arboretum is a natural retreat, containing all sorts of botanical curios from around the Borderlands, including plants from the Son'a planet, the Da'al and there are even rumours of cuttings taken from the USS Resolution's recent sojourn to the distant future.

Molly Malone's Irish Pub

Molly Malone's Irish Pub

A little taste of old Ireland, with appropriate decor and music. Make sure to try the Irish Stout, on tap! If you ask for Malone, they will lead you to a back room for poker and other amusements. Thursday nights are "Sing for your supper" open mic nights - please the crowd, get free your dinner for free. Don't please them, and find yourself washing dishes. Life is a risk, my friend.

Prosperity Pagoda

A themed bar-cum-restaurant, themed with Ancient Chinese culture from Earth, serving a variety of Chinese foods in a similarly decorated restaurant.

Show Rhihv

A retail chain selling mostly shirts catering primarily to Starfleet personnel. The chain is owned by a Romulan name Zerod and it's name translates roughly to "Warm Subject." Apparel ranges from department colored raglan's to Academy polo's.

Subway Sam's

This sit-down cafe specializes in sandwiches and soups from across the galaxy. Mostly catering to a lunch crowd, available beverages include water, varieties of fruit juices, and other soft drinks. In April 2398, over 300 station residents were hospitalized after eating contaminated Antarean spinach at Subway Sam's.[1]

Twilight's Edge

A popular spot for food, drink and entertainment among Deep Space 224 personnel, civilians and visitors. Similar to the other branches on StarBase 118 and Deep Space 17. Twilight's Edge has wonderful views of the Borderlands swirling stars and gorgeous inky darkness.

The Vinyl Frontier

Selling old records from Earth's past, as well as other music from around the galaxy, all "pointlessly" restored onto vintage vinyl discs.

Decks 227–228: Second Promenade

Babbling Brooks

All purpose spa, salon, massage parlour, and relaxation emporium. Named after the proprietor, Brooks Landry, who likes to talk.

Burger Nagus

A Ferengi burger joint, attached to the House of Commerce. It is run by a tiny old Ferengi named Ples. Menu Items include burger's made with a combination of slug meat and Terran beef. Spicy "shicken" sandwich. Sides such as Grub Fries, freshly chilled. And drinks such as Slug'O'Cola and Aquasition.

Gint's Gifts

Just across from Burger Nagus and the House of Commerce, lies Gint's Gifts. Named for the first Grand Nagus. Come spend your hard earned profits on useless, overpriced junk from across the galaxy! Mention you are part of Star Fleet, and enjoy sixty percent off of your purchases.

Yem-tukh Nar-tor'i (Acceptable Food)

This eatery serves traditional vegetarian cuisine from the planet Vulcan, as well as a small variety of meats from the same culture for those not of the vegetarian bent. It is run by a Vulcan woman who goes by T'kona (translates into 'leave Vulcan and never return')

FMC Movie Theater

A holo theater showing the latest releases from across the Federation. Modeled after the early 21st century AMC movie theaters complete with vinyl covered reclining seats, buttery popcorn, bad theater food, and cheap beer.

Holodeck

This holodeck is the recently converted and repaired one. The entrance is in the finished section of the third promenade.

USS Resolution Memorial

The USS Resolution, a frequent visitor to Deep Space 224, was destroyed on Stardate 239810.13. Within hours of the news reaching the station, residents and business owners began laying flowers and other items in front of an unoccupied storefront on Deck 228 in a makeshift memorial to the ship, and the crew who lost their lives. A permanent memorial was installed in the same location in April 2399.

Decks 229–230: Third Promenade

Deck 231: Vulcan Science Academy

At one point terrorised[2] by Alieth and Meidra Sirin.

Deck 232: Nature level

This is a triple level deck in size but is counted as 1 deck. It was built as part of the repair and conversion of the station. Star Fleet Medical had advised that crew serving long term on a station might benefit from an area of normal plant life. This entire level has plants, flowers, bushes and trees.

While the station has an Arboretum on the First Promenade its small size makes it a nice place for visitors to the station to relax. This nature level is only for station personnel. It also doubles as a research station into the native plant life in this sector. Also any plants from any where on the station may be transferred down here for care if they are not doing so well. Station personnel can also get plants for their quarters or offices and so can Starfleet personnel on board ships as well.

Decks 233–234: Station services

  • Deck 233 has the hospital and special containment areas for medical needs. It also holds the offices for Station services. Anyone wanting to arrange for quarters or commercial space would go here.
  • Deck 234 has the security office which also has the brig and armory within its section. There are also special containment areas for property.

Decks 235–239: Life support systems

Besides the main life support system, there are also 2 back up systems. The station's water purification and reclamation facilities.

Decks 240–249: Science labs and research

Decks 251–270: Engineering

  • Decks 251–260 contain DS224's main engineering center.
